I've heard your concerns regarding the garbage accumulation on the corners of King and Dolph and Argyle and Duke. I have confirmed that the BIA in conjunction with the streetscaping contractors and waste disposal company is working on adjusting pick up schedules to minimize the impact this is causing. Please bear with us as we work towards a solution.

April 18, 2019 For immediate release Statement from Mayor Kathryn McGarry and Councillor Mike Mann... Like many of you, we were horrified to hear the news yesterday about the fatal shooting in Preston. We are stunned and saddened to think that this could happen in our city, and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family. We have spoken with representatives from Waterloo Region Police, who are still in the process of their investigation. Citizens in Cambridge have a right to feel safe and secure, and we will be meeting with Chief Larkin to ensure we are doing everything we possibly can to protect our neighbourhoods. We will also be meeting with residents in Preston who, I know, share our deep concern. This violent incident is not reflective of our beautiful and vibrant City and the people who live here. Together we will work to ensure the safety of our community.

The comment that I made on Tuesday evening was made after I had heard from a number of Constituents asking questions and voicing concerns following the attack in Preston on Saturday March 23rd. Unfortunately this statement was taken out of context. I reacted to inaccurate and incomplete information. I own that and have learned from this situation. I am a big advocate of the Preston Core/BIA area and support our local family businesses. I wasn't familiar with the store, which is a testament to Dean and Tracey and their professional business operation. I met with Dean. I was shocked with the injuries that he has endured. In spite of these injuries, Dean and his staff were able to diffuse the situation and subdue the individual until police arrived. Without their immediate response the outcome could have been far worse.
