Today marks the first day of Violence Prevention Month, Violence Prevention Avalon East and Partners Launch #OneIdeaNL Social Media Campaign focused on preventi...ng violence. We will join more than 40 community and government agencies to launch the annual One Idea NL Social Media Campaign and Awareness Project for Violence Prevention Month 2021. This campaign will bring awareness to the issue of violence, particularly the more subtle forms we often tend to overlook or normalize within our communities, such as sexual violence and hidden abuse, discrimination and harassment, says Val Barter, VPAE Executive Director. The campaign runs throughout February and challenges individuals around the province to join the conversation on Facebook, and Twitter and in workplaces, homes and classrooms to ask and share What’s Your One Idea to Help Stop Violence? Barter says the purpose of the social media campaign and awareness project is to engage everyone around the province in violence prevention efforts. We want to hear from you. What’s one thing you can do?, Barter says. From that, we really hope to continue the conversation as stakeholders and collaborate with our violence prevention members in efforts like this to maximize our collective impact. Following the #OneIdeaNL campaign, Violence Prevention Avalon East will also be hosting a Violence Prevention Forum for students in grades 7-12 on Healthy Relationships/ Peer Support in partnership with Miles for Smiles and Restorative Justice; It gives youth a safe space to talk and tools to develop and maintain positive, healthy peer relationships, and to take action to prevent bullying and harassment in schools and communities-Says Barter. VPAE has also launched their C.A.R.E.S award for students in grades 5-12 in the Avalon East district. The criteria we are looking for are as follows: C Citizenship. The student works to make their school and community a better place. A Advocate. The student has been a leader or active in violence prevention activities in their school R Respect. The student respects people and property. They treat others the way they want to be treated. E- Empathy. The student is kind and compassionate toward others, understanding of others feelings. S - Stood Up - Stood up against bullying/violence in their school or community. Please join us in the important discussions throughout the month, we look forward to hearing from you. #EndViolenceNL #ViolencePreventionMonth2021 NLESD NL English School District Miles for Smiles Relationships First NL
An important reminder to be nice to each other.
If Brene Brown is mentioned, you knows it's worth the read. As usual, she offers great advice for parents in the attached article.
The UN designated November 20th as National Child's Day. Celebrating National Child Day is about celebrating children as active participants in their own lives ...and in communities, as active citizens who can and should meaningfully contribute to decision-making. A great example of this happened recently, when the Prime Minister of Norway held a children's press conference, answering only their questions about COVIF-19 and offering them support/reassurance. The Women's World Summit Foundation (WWSF), a non-governmental organization, launched the World Day for Prevention of Child Abuse on November 19 in the year 200...0. According to the WWSF: "Child abuse, especially sexual abuse, is a universal and alarming problem and increased attention and efficient protection skills and prevention measures are necessary at family-, local-, national- and international level". Talk about life-changing. Mount Saint Vincent University will help so many with this incredibly kind gesture. Thank you MSVU.
You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book.
A little reminder to check in with your senior loved ones. Maybe spend some time with them or schedule plans for when time permits. Let's show them some love.
I am seeing a lot of parents question why are we being asked to wear an orange shirt today. This is why. Also, super disappointed in schools not informing more before the actual day.
Police feared this 'predator' would repeat crimes when issuing public safely warnings last year, upon his return to the province. If this does not scream problems within the justice system, I don't know what does. This crime should never have happened. Predators like this have no place in society.

When people tell me they don’t want to be a foster parent because they are scared, I always think of this night. This was one of our little foster children’s fi...rst night in our home. She had only met us hours earlier. We were complete strangers & she was scared. While we were introducing ourselves, we promised her that she was safe in our home, just as we have done with all our foster children through the years. When it was time for bed she cried & said that she didn’t want any monsters to get her. We didn’t know her whole story yet, we didn’t know if monsters had indeed hurt her at night before. My husband calmed her down, said a goodnight prayer & asked if she needed anything else before bed. She asked him again to promise no monsters would get her if she fell asleep. He promised, & to put her at ease, this is how they slept. This is a child people are too scared to help? Foster Care is scary, I would be lying if I said I don’t still get nervous sometimes, but I PROMISE you that it’s worth it! You too can help keep monsters away! You CAN do it. -Rebecca Wagner, Foster Mom- #FosterLove #FosterCare #DoHardThings
Brave young man. The look of pride on his face when they are brought up speaks volumes. #hero
Absolutely disgusting! If you agree, please take the time to contact Netflix and voice your concerns.
