Yoga warmup is done, and now for some Judo, partnered uchikomi style!
The Tots get it!
Moving and breathing. Yoga and Judo have so much in common.
Warming up the body for Judo using some good old fashion yoga. After 6 months off, what a great way to wake up the body for exercise.
First week of Judo back up and running was a complete success. Both the coaches and the athletes are so happy to be back! Once a Judoka, always a Judoka. Not even Covid keeps us down. With class sizes reduced and limited, there are only a few spots left in each class (Juniors, Teens & Adults). If you are looking to get started, let us know asap. Those interested in introducing your 4-6 year old tots, room is available in our Physical Literacy Judo Tots program.
Limited class size is filling up FAST! Remember, if you want your kids involved, two things must be done BEFORE your arrival at the dojo. (1) JudoBC registration http://www.trackiereg.com/JudoBC-1SHDK This has new consent forms that must be read and signed before you step back into the dojo and on the mats. If you are not registered, you will not be permitted in the dojo.... (2) Registration with Shidokai Judo [email protected] Let Sensei Michael know you plan to be at the dojo. We have limited capacity for each class, and must know ahead of time who plans to be at which one. PS - dont forget to order a gi. My recommendation is Fushida out of Richmond BC. https://www.fushida.ca/Judo-Gi-s/71.htm
Dojo reopens today! Limited spaces available if you are looking to sign up. Contact me ASAP if you are interested.Dojo reopens today! Limited spaces available if you are looking to sign up. Contact me ASAP if you are interested.

Learn a little history of Harai and Hane Goshi.
New season is about to start, and I figured this would be a good time to show a favorite Kids Judo instructor, Warren Rossner! This just gets me hyped for a restart!
Another view as Keenan Cornelius shows the Scorpion Death Lock.
I never saw Sting do THIS version of the Scorpion Death Lock!

Judo BC is excited to let the judo community know that organized sport can officially move into Phase 3 of the Return to Sport Protocols effective immediately. The BC Government made the announcement this morning. For Judo, this means that member clubs that have been approved by Judo BC to resume activities during the pandemic, can start doing judo with one partner and then transition into practicing in cohorts of 10 or less. Mask are mandatory during this phase and all the enhanced cleaning, hygiene and member screening protocols from phase 2 are still in place. For more information about the Phase 3 Protocols please visit the COVID-19 section of our website.
Registration has begun for the new season. If you plan to do Judo on the mats or by Zoom only, a Judobc membership is mandatory. http://www.trackiereg.com/JudoBC-1SHDK If you have any issues with registering, please feel free to email me at [email protected].
Programs for Tots, Juniors, Teens and Adults are set to restart. Looking for your Judo / Jiujitsu / Personal Protection? We are your one stop dojo. September is just around the corner. If your interested in being part of this, please let me know (email [email protected]). One new post Covid-19 rule will be no more casual dropin students. You are either in and part of the program or your not. Due to the pandemic, there will be no more "casual" students. Also, class sizes will be limited. In the next week or so, a student manual on navigating Judo through the pandemic will be put out by Island Judo. Definetly stay tuned for more info! Looking forward to seeing everyone back out on the mats again soon.
Virtual Judo Zoom at 10am Saturday mornings!
One of the central principles of both judo and jiu-jitsu is to use maximum efficiency and minimum effort when you execute your techniques. The next time you feel an opponent using a lot of power, dont directly try to match them. Instead, relax and let them tire themselves out.
Judo officially set to restart in September. If you plan to be part of the restart, please email sensei ([email protected]) and let him know.
Virtual Judo Zoom class Mondays at 4pm!
This is why you need to practice your Ashi Wazi! This is also the reason you practice your Ukemi!
Zoom Judo at 10am!
