We had a lot of fun joining Inside Education, Work Wild, and the Canadian Wildlife Federation at the Huestis Demonstration Forest near Whitecourt last week, for a Forest & Wildlife Teacher Professional Development program. A big thank-you to Dan, Charlotte, and Gareth from our Woodlands team for sharing their expertise with a great group of teachers, who came out to learn some exciting new ways to bring the forest to their classrooms. The Whitecourt event was one of six Insid...e Education PD workshops attended by 114 teachers at sites across the province, where forest industry, environmental organizations, and other experts gathered to share insights into forest ecology and sustainable forest management. If Covid-19 means we can't bring the kids to the forest, we'll help teachers bring the forest to the kids! Millar Western Communications Manager Louise Riopel has been recognized on the national stage, receiving a well deserved award from the Forest Products Association of Canada, as Member of the Year. In their announcement, FPAC noted they were honouring Louise as a small way of saying thanks for the care and passion she has shown in helping the association share the important stories of Canada’s forests and forest communities. We agree! Thanks, Louise, for gracing our company and industry with your skill, dedication, hard work and humanity these past 23 years. And, thanks to our friends at Forest Products Association of Canada for a very fitting honour. Check this video tribute from FPAC CEO Derek Nighbor, for more: https://youtu.be/FyYf6k2rEWw
"Love Alberta Forests" is helping Albertans understand the power and beauty of our forests and the relationships we all share with sustainably managed, renewable forest resources. Been to the LoveABForests website lately? Send a friend -- they'll *love* the videos and info about the forest landscape and all that it provides, from wildlife habitat, plant life, water quality and carbon capture, to traditional uses, recreation and culture, rewarding careers, essential materials, and strong communities. https://loveabforests.com/ Alberta Forest Products Association
As we join CIF in celebrating the 100th anniversary of National Forest Week, we are reminded of our own proud history, and the responsibility we all share in sustaining our forests for the future. Canadian Institute of Forestry / Institut forestier du Canada
Tree planting is seasonal work, but it creates thousands of jobs for planters, tree nurseries, helicopter companies & camp staff. Did you know that #treeplantin...g provided 43,500 days of work for tree planters this year? Planters tend to be younger Albertans; many are enrolled in post-secondary studies. You might say that tree planting provides a brighter future for our forests and young Albertans! #forestfactfriday #loveabforests See more
