Cavan/Millbrook Softball League 18.01.2022

All, With the current lockdown/shutdown in effect, the stay at home order extension and lack of registrants, it is with regret that the decision has been made to cancel the 2021 season. Everyone was hopeful that we would be able to enjoy a season this year. As you may be aware, Cavan plays in a community league with Bethany, Pontypool and Janetville. Cavan is within the Peterborough Health Unit and Bethany, Pontypool and Janetville are within the Kawartha Lakes Health Unit.... Both Health Units would be restricting play to only those teams living within their respective Health Units so even if we could have a season, Cavan teams would only be able to play in Cavan and against other Cavan teams. Bethany and Pontypool have both cancelled their season due to the restrictions and lack of registrants. Janetville is holding off on a decision as they have had a significant increase in registrants this year and will be trying to have some sort of season. With all this said, I will be reaching out to those that offered to coach to see if we can put together some sort of General Skills Development Sessions and perhaps some Advanced Skills Sessions during the spring and summer, if restrictions are lifted and would still be dependent on what guidelines have to be followed. Before the lockdown/shutdown, I was advised by the township that each ball diamond would be considered a "gathering site" and would be allowed 30 people max per diamond. This includes players, coaches and parents. We'll have to see what we are allowed to do. If we do go ahead with some Skills Development Sessions, everything will be posted to our website, https://cavansoftball.wixsite.com/home and here on our Facebook page. If you would be interested in attending Skills Development Sessions, keep in mind that one of the guidelines that would have to be followed is that each player would have to have his/her own batting helmet. Youth Softball sees this requirement being implemented even once COVID is done. We will no longer be allowing the sharing of batting helmets going forward as we have done in the past. Cavan Softball has a helmet inventory of upwards of 60+ batting helmets. If you would rather purchase a used helmet, we can offer these out at $15 per helmet. We also have 5-6 helmets with a face guard. The face guards themselves run about $25 new. We would offer these helmets with the face guards for $30. If you are interested in purchasing a helmet and/or face guard, please let me know. Thanks

Looking to see if Blitzball is a thing around here and if so, what the interest would be in starting up a league or tournaments. Obviously, when COVID restrictions allow. The great thing about Blitzball is that anyone can play. Teams are made up of a maximum of 5 players including the pitcher. For interest purposes, this would be open for 16 years and older. Again, just looking to see if there would be interest from people for this. ... Nick

All, It is in times of hardship when communities pull together and support each other. That has been very evident for Millbrook over the last couple of weeks. I’m asking that you all keep up with that support. Sadly, Laura and Andrew Aird recently lost their youngest son, Ryeker, in an accident. Their eldest son, Bashton, lost his younger brother. ... Laura and Andrew have been coaches in our Cavan Youth Softball League for a few years now so many of you know them. I had Bashton on our first ever Select team a couple years ago and Reyker was there at every tournament cheering on his older brother and then chillin’ out with the team in his makeshift playpen under all of the sun shelters. Attached is a link to a GoFundMe page that was set up for them. If you can, please help our teammates out. Thanks Nick

All, If you filled out the Pre-Registration Form, you still need to fill out the official Registration Form. Thanks

Cavan/Millbrook Softball League 20.06.2021

All, Here’s where we currently sit with registration numbers: Tball- 7... U10- 7 U13- 2 U16- 12 U19- 4 Reminder- If you filled out the Pre-Registration Form online, YOU STILL NEED to fill out and send an official registration form. I cannot use the Pre-Registration form as your official registration as many did not fill in all the fields completely. Please do not delay in sending this as a decision will be made soon to have a season or not based on registrant numbers. Thanks Nick Cavan Youth Softball has a new website! Please visit our site at https://cavansoftball.wixsite.com/home. We will now be doing a "soft registration" in that we will be accepting registration forms however, no payment is needed at this time until we see where the Peterborough Health Unit will be placing us as far as a COVID Level. As we currently sit in the Red Level, team games and practices are prohibited and only "training" in groups of 10 are allowed. If restrictions are lessened, hopefully we can get a season in. You can find our downloadable Registration Form on our site in the Registration page. There is a second page of the form that you need to read and understand before completing the form. Once complete, please scan (preferably as a pdf) and email them to me at [email protected]. If you do not have access to a scanner, there are some really good scanning apps for both iPhone and Android that can be downloaded. I would like to avoid pictures of the registration forms being sent because if they aren't formatted properly, they come through very blurry. If you have any questions, please let me know and I will do my best to get back to you in a timely manner. Thanks Nick

All, In talking with the other communities directors, everyone seems to be on the same page as far as wanting to have season but as stated earlier, there are still some uncertainties surrounding COVID. Please complete the survey in the link below. This is not a registration form so if/when we do get to registration, you will need to complete one. Please share this so others not following our site can see it. Thanks... Nick https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLSfvXBwzErwRatd6_/viewform

Hello All, I’m starting to get the question, Will there be a season this year? The short answer, we definitely hope to have a season this year. With COVID ongoing, there isn’t a definitive answer we can give. Things are very much week by week and with local outbreaks, things can change very quickly. I’ll be meeting with the other community directors soon to discuss the upcoming season and will be meeting with township officials in the coming weeks. Once we have a decis...ion, it will be posted here. Thanks Nick

All, With the news of restrictions to possibly ease up in the coming weeks, it poses the question of When will ball start? A simple question but a lot of uncertainty in answering it right now. Provinces and municipalities will look to start easing/lifting restrictions soon but there is still no date in sight as to when parks/diamonds will be able to be used and if youth team sports will be allowed or how they will be allowed to play. I’ve been seeing that fields/diamond...s MAY be open by mid/late June. Softball Ontario has kept their office in Toronto closed, have canceled all coaching and umpire clinics for 2020 and have postponed any further decisions for allowing teams to play until May 18; postponed again for two weeks from their last postponement date of May 4. As a league, there are so many things that need to happen well before play starts. Registration needs to happen, teams to be made, coaches to be found (begged for), uniforms need to be ordered, schedules need to be made, equipment needs to be purchased and on and on. Without knowing when we can start playing, all of this is on hold which will delay when we would actually be able to start playing once given the green light from the government. With that said, it saddens me to announce that the 2020 Softball House League season is canceled. This doesn’t necessarily mean that there won’t be any ball this season for Cavan. I am working with coaches to see if there’s something we could do so that there’s something for the kids this summer. Stay tuned for more information. For those that we’re going to be interested in trying out for the two Select teams we were going to have this year, U14 and U16, this is not totally out of the question. No decision from the OSSTA has been made as of yet. It may be possible that some tournaments are postponed to later in the year if restrictions allow. I will keep you all posted. I know this isn’t the news we all wanted to hear but for the safety of everyone, we needed to make this decision now. Thanks everyone. Nick

All, With the continuous change of events and restrictions being put in place, I have to cancel the two in-person registration dates for next week. I am also postponing all online/email registrations until the beginning of April so please do not send any registration forms or e-transfers until further notice. At the beginning of April, all of the Community Softball Directors will be deciding whether we will be able to have a season this year. This decision will be based on ...Public Health's direction for minor sports organizations. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Nick
