This has been the topic of conversation recently! There have been a few Real Estate Brokerages that have been charging Buyers a commission as well as being compensated by the Seller. Personally, I believe this is unethical. Here's how the math works (example for illustration purposes): A Seller is selling their property and the total commission that they have agreed to with their Agent is 5% + HST. The Seller has also agreed with their Agent to provide another Agent, one who ...brings a Buyer to the property, with 2.5% + HST out of the total commission. The Buyer's Agent in this example is being compensated by the Seller. There are some Buyer Agents out there charging an additional 2.5% + HST on top of what they're receiving from the Seller!
