Little is known about the financial impact of unpaid caregiving. Even less is known about the financial impacts of caregiving on millennial caregivers/care partners. Toronto-based Ph.D. student, care partner and millennial, Husayn, is aiming to fill these gaps. As part of his thesis, he is conducting an online survey among home-based, unpaid caregivers/care partners from Ontario to understand the impact of care expenses on overall income, employment, and general health. In t...he future, he hopes to expand this study across Canada. He hopes findings from this study may be used by policymakers to improve the financial well-being of Canada's rapidly growing community of unpaid caregivers providing care/support for someone living at home. If you are a caregiver/care partner in Ontario, please consider participating in this important research. For more information and/or to participate, visit: is.gd/unpaidcaregivingstudy.

In the news... Today, Wilton’s daughter Alison cries as she talks about the day her mother phoned to tell her about the encounter. She calls it one of many examples of age discrimination that her mother has faced over the last decade as her health worsened. The ageism comes not only in the form of callous comments but as unaffordable housing, insufficient home care, wait lists for long-term care and a lack of support for family caregiversall of which existed prior to the pandemic but worsened over 2020, says Wilton. People say, ‘Well, they’re old anyway.’ - Macleans
