I just finished watching an interesting conference on the traditional music and dance from the Pointe de la Gaspésie. Here is a local tune I picked up from Guy Bouchard and Laura Sadowsky during a recent visit to Douglastown. Great fluting material.

I was thrilled to find a DVD buried under a pile this week from a great evening in the fall of 2017 at the Old Songs, Inc. building in Voorheesville NY when the... songs of George Ward were celebrated. George was there, of course, along with John Roberts, Than Ward, Pete Ward and some other family members, and I got to sing this song of George's which paints a very colorful picture of an early trip west along the Mohawk River, pre Erie Canal days, in a bateau/bateaux. In 2010, a group of Douglastown community members came together with musicians and researchers as a kind of loose collective, working to document and share the ...traditional fiddle music of Gaspé Bay. Through blogs, festivals, workshops, presentations, CDs, the traditional fiddle music and square dancing of the communities around Gaspé Bay is beginning to once again occupying a place in the daily cultural life of the region and is even making waves with fiddlers across the globe! On August 8, 2020, from 1 pm - 4 pm, on Facebook Live, A Different Tune (brought to you by the Quebec Anglophone Heritage Network) joins forces with Vision Gaspé-Percé Now and the Douglas Community Centre to celebrate 10 years with some of the musicians and researchers who helped make this happen! Hosted by Glenn Patterson and Laura Risk.
