Milton Animal Sanctuary 11.11.2020

The Milton Animal Sanctuary is now closed and we would like to thank everyone for their generosity and support. Over the past few years, we have found homes for many animals in need of a happy ending and we couldn’t have done it without you! A few years ago we raised monies to help a dog that came into our care that needed hip surgery. While waiting for her to mature, we established a pro-active exercise and rehabilitation program to help build up her muscles to help suppo...rt her hips after surgery and gave her lots of TLC. The day before Abby was due to have surgery, we met with the surgeon at the University of Guelph for her pre-op examination. Upon examination he determined that Abby no longer required surgery as her muscles were strong enough to support her hips. This was great news for everyone, especially Abby! The monies raised for Abby has gone on to help not just one dog but many animals including Charlie, a cat that was dumped and found to have Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), a 9 year old mix breed who was abandoned and diagnosed with breast cancer, Nunamit whose owner had died and was housed in a kennel for 4 months while we worked on behavioural issues and finding her forever home, the spay/neuter of several feral cat colonies and assisted low income families who would have to euthanize their pets due to the high cost of vet care. These are just a few of the animals that you have helped and know that, if they could, they would like to thank you themselves. Therefore, on behalf of Molly, Fisban, Garfield, Odie, Charlie, Mary Jane, Nunamit, Princess, Ling, Stripe, Mike, Sully and others who have no names, thank you for caring! We will be donating any monies left over to the Oakville & Milton Humane Society with the caveat that it will be allocated to help Milton animals.

I thought I would re-post this article regarding animal abuse at Maple Lodge farms. Did you know that the chicken you purchase in Loblaws & Food Port are supplied by Maple Lodge farms? Did you know that by purchasing their products you support animal abuse. Many of you have done so unknowingly but now you can have your voice heard by asking your local grocery store where they purchase their chickens and that you will NOT purchase Maple Lodge products until they comply with the court's ruling. Please share this post as it is not just a problem in Milton but province wide. Help others to make informed decisions and send a clear message to mega stores that we expect them to adhere to a code of conduct that does not promote the mistreatment of animals which they profit from. http://www.huffingtonpost.ca//maple-lodge-farms-animal-rig

Poor Taiga is still waiting for her forever home at the Oakville & Milton Humane Society. We hope that you will share this photo of Taiga in the hopes that we can find that special someone. Being in the shelter for almost a year is too long for this gentle girl.

The next time you go shopping for chicken you may want to ask the store who supplies their chicken. If it is Maple Lodge Farms you may want to consider boycotting their products until they have complied with the Ontario court ruling who found them guilty for their inhumane treatment of their poultry. http://www.huffingtonpost.ca//maple-lodge-farms-animal-rig

I took a day trip to Oakville the other day and popped in at the Oakville & Milton Humane Society to take a look at their pets waiting for their forever home. I met Taiga who is an 8 year old Siberian Husky who acts like a 3 year old. She is all husky in that she always has a story to tell you (whether you want to hear it or not), very active and loves to go on long walks and hikes (so don't be fooled by her age). The best home for Taiga is one that has experience with huskies, has an active lifestyle and has older children. Taiga is very gentle when taking a treat and is easy to walk. This poor girl has been waiting at OMHS for almost a year for her forever home. Please share these pics with the hope that that special person will find her. If you would like more information on Taiga, call OMHS at 905.845.1551 x47.
