Hey everyone For those who don’t know yet, a while ago, I got accepted by Loop Abroad to go to South Africa this summer, to enter into a pre-veterinarian program! In my case, it’s the South Africa Zoo Medicine program. We will be staying at the Lory Park Animal and Owl Sanctuary. During those 2 weeks, we will study the anatomy, the handling, the medical needs in captivity, the behavior, and the conservation of: birds of prey, reptiles, big cats, small cats, cubs, and p...rimates. We will also assist veterinary labs, necropsies and lectures from vets and expert guests. Finally, we will go on a two-day safari trip in the Pilanesberg Game Reserve, one of the largest in South Africa, home to the Big Five (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, Cape buffalo), and so much more (zebras, giraffes, cheetahs, hippos, crocodiles, etc.). However, this kind of trip costs a lot of money, but seeing that I got accepted and that it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do, I’m taking the opportunity. As most of you know, I have a special place in my heart for animals. Because of this love, my interest for the veterinary medicine profession only grew, and led me to my wonderful job at a veterinary hospital. And now, going to South Africa will help me sharpen my skills and accumulate experience in this field . This 2-week program costs $3,950 (USD), all inclusive less airfare. Airfare from New York, NY to Johannesburg is $1,610 (USD) round-trip including taxes and fees. There is also the matter of travelling to New York from Montreal (and back). All of this together makes almost 8000$ (CAD). So I started selling chocolate bites that I made, but it turns out it’s not that profitable . Yes, this trip is very expensive, but this is a lifetime experience and I’m sure I won’t regret it for a single second. I think that money is meant to be spent on what we love most . Hi guys! Sorry, I’ve been silent for a long time, but so much is going on! I might have the chance to go to South Africa for two weeks this summer, thanks to Loop Abroad ! They’re offering pre-vet programs to Thailand, the Amazon Rainforest & the Galapagos, South Africa (), and to Australia! Those two programs, Veterinary Service & Zoo Medicine, are really on my to do list! I can’t wait to provide medical care to cheetahs, study big cats, go on a two-day safari trip and see the Big Five (lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant & Cape buffalo). #loopabroad is all about making dreams come true. . . .
