Right side shift means Left side brake..
Early ironhead, right side shift..
About time to post more pics.. Here's an ironhead I've been working on for a while.. Slowly but surely..
Valve spring pressure gauge.. Better known as a "Scale".. I've seen these for sale before and because I could, decided to try and make one.. Here are the basics.. The gauge displays psi "pounds per square inch", I needed "pounds" so the pressure must be exerted over 1 square inch.. The bore diameter is 1.128" (Radius=.564".. 3.1416(pi)(.564.564)= 0.999 square inches rounded) or ~1 square inch..
Measuring runout.. .001" total.. (Each line is .0005" on dial face)
Testing out the collet chuck..
My "Collet Chuck" project all started with this thing.. When I bought this lathe, it came in pieces.. One of those was this and I had no idea what it was.. In digging, I found that it is a "lever actuated 5C collet chuck", but of course was missing some pieces.. So I thought I'd make some..
This project ended up being more time consuming than previously anticipated.. It's an adapter to run a "5C" collet in the spindle of my lathe that happens to have a "MT5" (Morse taper #5) on the inside..
Originally I made the guide bar for the taper attachment out of 1" x .120" wall Dom tubing, after playing with it a bunch I decided to make one out of 1" solid stock, much better as I can hold tighter tolerances.. Here is a shift linkage I made using the taper attachment..
Made a "taper attachment" for my lathe... I still find it funny using a machine to make a piece for itself..
