Well thank goodness for this. There’s something to be said about good enough parenting. No parent is perfect, and we all make mistakes. But at the end of the day as long as you are their safe haven; and they feel seen, heard, and loved you are doing your job

Read aloud together and have your kids read on their own.
If there is only one thing you can do with your children, let it be reading out loud to them, especially books at higher reading levels than they are capable of reading. It will enhance their understanding and develop vocabulary. It's a wonderful bonding experience, too.

Reading works best for children when they are taught the sounds that letters make. Then they need to learn how to blend those sounds together to form words. And finally they need to repeat practice so that the words become automatic for the child. With this practice comes fluency and comprehension.
What studies are saying about having a strong hand grip. "Strengthening your child's hand grip with fine motor and hand writing activities can help ignite the left-side of the brain for higher skills processes like organization, completing tasks, remembering facts and details, emotional control, speech and language, expressive communication, and more."
Helping children develop memory skills is a key component of therapy. The more they memorize the better they get a it, just like riding a bike.

In my practice, I see my home school clients are receiving penmanship lessons but not so much for regular schooled students. It really matters. Improvement in students' letter formation leads to positive outcomes for literacy development.
This video explains patterns to words that are often considered exceptions. The longer I do therapy the more of these patterns show themselves to me that I never thought of before. Fascinating!
