This is Eliza, pictured here with the adorable Rosie! Eliza is the newest technician addition to the Minden Animal Hospital. Eliza graduated this summer from the veterinary technician program at Georgian College. She has two cats, Lucifer and Clay, that she shares with her fiancé Shawna. If you are in for your pets annual exam and vaccines this fall, say hi to Eliza!

Meet Kasey! Kasey is one of our RVTs and started at Minden Animal Hospital in July. Kasey also works as an RVT at Beaches Animal Hospital and Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital in the Anaesthesia Department. Kasey has been working as an RVT for 6 years. We are very lucky to have Kasey be apart of the Minden Animal Hospital team with all her experience and knowledge, as well as her uplifting and hard working personality. If you see Kasey at your next visit, say hi!

We are very excited to announce the addition of Dr. Sarah to the Minden Animal Hospital team! Dr. Sarah graduated from the University College Dublin in Ireland and has been practicing in Ontario for three years. The areas of veterinary medicine that Sarah most enjoys are internal medicine, oncology and the importance of preventative care. Dr. Sarah is a great addition to our team and we are so happy to have her!

October is RVT month! What is an RVT? An RVT is a Registered Veterinary Technician. They are trained professionals who must graduate from an accredited veterinary technician program. In addition to graduating, an RVT must pass the Veterinary Technician National Examination in order to become licensed. They must also complete continuing education courses every year to maintain their licensed status.... RVTs are an integral part of every animal hospital. They have many rolls and responsibilities, some of which include: monitoring anesthesia and patient recovery, taking x-rays, collecting blood, urine and cytology samples, performing microscopic evaluations, preparing and administering medications and treatments, performing dental scaling and polishing procedures and MUCH MORE! Animal hospitals could not function without RVTs. Here at Minden Animal Hospital we have four RVTs and throughout this month we will introduce you to each one! Stay tuned

Water Safety with Finn! Everyone loves a beautiful summer day, but you still need to take precautions to avoid any emergencies from arising. Finn is here to talk to you about some helpful tips to keep our furry family members safe at the beach, lake and even at the pool. 1. Invest in a life jacket - this could save a life in an emergency situation. 2. After a swim be sure to dry your pet off to avoid any nasty hot spots or ear infections from forming. ... 3. Avoid letting your dog drink from lakes/ponds, this could make them very sick, especially if you are in an area with Blue-Green Algae; always bring fresh water with you. 4. Hot sand can blister paws! If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for them. 5. Swimming is tiring - be sure to enforce breaks frequently throughout the day. 6. Be cautious of hyperthermia AND hypothermia - our pets don't understand why they're getting hot or cold. Need to be mindful of the water and outside temperatures. 7. Last but not least, there is such thing as too much water! Water intoxication happens when a dog ingests a large amount of water in a short period of time. If your pet is experiencing any signs of distress after a long day on the water, contact your veterinarian immediately.

This little guy was found last night injured on the side of Blairhampton Road (closer to highway 35). He’s approximately 4-5 months old. He is currently stable and doing well. If anyone recognizes him please let us know, let’s get him back home.

For the protection of both our staff and your family we are changing how we admit patients to our facility and how to retrieve your food or medication orders. Effective May 19th, 2020 we will remain open by appointment only and our front doors will be locked until arrival. We value your business and are here for your concerns regarding your pet. ... Our hours of operation during this time: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm. Closed Saturdays and Sundays. When you arrive to the building: 1. Contact us by cell (705-286-2919) or knock on the front door 2. Staff will then arrange to either retrieve your pet from your vehicle at arms’ length or through the front door. Pets are to be leashed or in a carrier for a safe transfer. 3. Your pet will then be brought to an examination room where the doctor will begin their assessment. 4. Contact will be made via phone or at arms’ length by the doctor or technician outside while you wait in your car. 5. Payment can be made for all medications and treatments via credit or debit card preferably by phone or email money transfer. MAH can also bring a point of sale machine to you for payment. (staff sterilize point of sale machine before and after every use) 6. Please call us prior to picking up any food or medications only. Once it is safe to resume our regular operations MAH will notify by Facebook, signage, and mass email. Please make sure we have your email address and cell phone numbers!
