Today's painting lesson: Pepper, garlic, cucumber study in mass tones with full saturation.
Today's lesson was Loch Awe, Scotland: winter landscape study from a photograph.
Today's painting lesson: Glass Half Full, teaching transparency of glass and liquid in the alla prima style (not glazing), using 7 monochromatic tones of Pthalo Green. Difficult, but great fun!
Today's painting lesson was the Impressionist style still life, a la Cezanne.
Apple glazing coming along, still need to add more diversity within dark and half dark areas.
Refined details in shadow, light, and added colour glazes. Walnut oil medium used, though will still take ages to dry, compared to Galkyd fast drying medium on other two paintings. Happy with todays work!
Going deeper... have yet to do hair eye and cloth detailing and light. Have not yet used black... but will.
Working on glazes modifying mood and temperature for colour values in areas of light. Later shadow colour glazes. Have to work carefully...
A colour overpainting and transitional glaze later, it's starting to take form.

Tonal underpainting finished. Added just a bit of colour!
New drawing while waiting for other paintings to dry. The lines are where tones transition for when beginning to paint.
First over painting of head in 16 tonal range... a bit much but worked.
