Mindfulness practices are a way to nurture every student's resilience and self-compassion. Thanks to Youth Mental Health Canada for this image and so many excellent ideas!

I wish our high schools had a credit course in mindfulness!

Lately, I have heard many parents commenting on the challenges of screen time for their children. This article has lots of good ideas to think about. One of t...he most important in my opinion... model a balanced use of technology. I was recently talking with the sales person in a store. I asked her about her children and how their summer was going. She was extremely frustrated that all they wanted to do was be on the computer. They were not interested in sports, art, music, camps...nothing but the computer. After more discussion I asked her what she did in her spare time. She said she watched TV ... nothing else. We all need our down time, but we also need to model what it is we wish for our children. As a parent, be sure to nurture your interests with activities away from the screen, even if it is just a bike ride, cooking class or walk in nature. You are doing your children a good favour! Sounds like a great design and a great school. I love the idea of the garden shelves! The Blue School was started as a playgroup for the children of the Blue Man Group and has grown into much more.
