Reposted from @yinspirationyinyoga Ballerina or runner? The angle of inclination of the neck of the femur (thigh bone) will determine how much movement occurs ...in the hip joint. The more slanted the angle, the greater the range of motion (ROM). More is not always better though. It always depends on what you want to do with your hips. A ballerina would prefer more range as her profession requires her to maximise that reach in order to look impressive in her dance. An Olympic runner may prefer otherwise, as his profession requires more stability in his movements. Giving him more range may adversely affect his running performance. The limited range that he has actually saves him energy and renders him more efficiency and power to perform his forward sprint. More ROM is great for exercises that require flexibility but bad for those that require speed. You may be more flexible but you are also slower. So it really depends on what do you want to do with the bones that you have. The shape of our bones are pretty much fixed by the time we reach puberty. You cannot change it (unless you go for aesthetic surgery). So when practising yoga (or any other movement modalities), it is vital we respect the limitations of our #anatomy (which is in our DNA), and work within "our own healthy range" instead of imitating what others can and we cannot. #EverySkeletonIsDifferent #yin #yinyoga #functionalanatomy

Social Distancing message I hope that you are doing well with our new reality of "Social Distancing." As time has suddenly slowed down I have been thinking how I can best be of service to you all during the next while. I am in awe of how much I miss having you all come to the studio for classes and seeing your faces. This past Friday morning I was fortunate to put together a test group of 5 clients for a virtual class using the Zoom platform and it was a success! We were able... to chat a bit before the class and have everyone organize their cameras (either tablet, phone or laptop) so that I could see what everyone was doing. The feedback was that everyone had a great workout and they all felt that it is a great alternative to coming to the studio. The classes that are currently scheduled are: Virtual Chair/Arc (for clients that have this equipment): Monday's at 8:30 am, Tuesday's at 6 pm and Friday's at 8:30 am *I do have a few chairs left to loan out to those of you that have experience with the chair and would like to join these classes. Core Pilates/Yoga Stretch Class: Tuesday's at 9:30 am Pilates Mat Class: Wednesday's at 9:30 am and 6:00 pm Pilates and Foam Roller Class (for clients that have a foam roll): Thursday's at 8:30 am All class reservations are made on Schedulicity and you will need to download the Zoom.us platform on your laptop or mobile device. The meeting ID will always be 981-749-9584 and to keep things simple, I will email a meeting invite 15 minutes before each class starts.
