Mindfulness is extremely beneficial in therapy. If we spend much of our time focusing on the future, we are at risk of developing anxiety. And, if we spend much of our time thinking about the past, we are at risk of developing depression. By practicing mindfulness, you will reduce triggers of depression and anxiety. You will have greater enjoyment in life experiences, sleep better, have better relationships with loved ones, and promote physical as well as psychological health.
Self-care is one of the most important concepts in psychology. As a therapist, I encourage my clients to practice self-care every single day. How can I practice self-care? is a common question. My answer to this is simple: you decide. Self-care can be anything you want. The possibilities are endless. Practicing self-care has a positive impact on your mental health, personal relationships, work performance, and overall well-being. It helps to incorporate your self-care routine into your day at the same time each day. Remember, consistency is key!
My main goal is to ensure you, the client, are comfortable in the therapeutic setting. Unfortunately, there is enough stigma associated with therapy. My job is to destigmatize the experience for you. When you sit in this office, nothing else matter. No one is listening, no one is judging. During this difficult time, most of us are feeling stressed, overwhelmed and frustrated. As a mental health professional, I believe this is a critical time for us to engage in self-care. Reach out to a friend or loved one, exercise, pick up a new hobby, plan for your future. Most importantly, check-in with yourself and your emotions. The past few years have been instrumental to my growth as an individual and a therapist. However, I have also devoted so much of my time to my... career and goals that I forgot what it was like to "relax". This experience is humbling. I am also learning to take a step back and take care of my health. If you or anyone you know wants to try something to manage anxiety, check out the video below.
