People talk about reading a book every week/month/whatever time period. People also talk about having X years experience in working in a particular sector... ...But the problem is many who do read - don’t actually do anything with said knowledge. Most people who work in a sector don’t try enough different things to constitute X years experience. For many it’s just the same year repeated over and over again. I thought I’d share how I read. -=- Here’s how I read. 1. Open book 2. Start reading until I hit something that I can implement 3. Stop reading. 4. Go implement. 5. If it works - teach it. (Solidifies lesson when you teach someone else) 6. If it doesn’t work assess whether it’s worth adapting and trying again. 7. Repeat weekly. At the end of the year you will have tried 52 new things. More if you adapted stuff that didn’t work and attempted a few times. Most people just trudge through work or business or school but don’t try enough angles of attack prior to just going through the motions. This model builds real life experience, while trying stuff that might be considered out of the box for you.

So SHAW internet has failed me, and they were down for a whopping 20 hours. (in a row) naturally I was frustrated so since they forced me to jaunt on down over to my local starbucks (who happens to use a different provider) I made a meme to vent my frustration and posted it on twitter, facebook, etc. Shortly after the post, Telus (Shaw's main competitor) reached out and said "hi" with a wink. And now I'm in talks with them - just like that. Sometimes my marketing rants will be observations on marketing done right.
