RE: IDEA FOR A COURSE WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS? When I was growing up, I don’t remember hearing the words dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease. I didn’t know anyone with these conditions. At least, I didn’t think I did. In reality they were there. My cousins’ grandmother had moved in to live with their family. When we went to visit I didn’t give much thought to the old lady sitting in the rocking chair in the living room. She didn’t seem to talk much or even get up and walk around. ...Nobody said what was wrong with her. I thought she was just old. But in hindsight, I realize now there was more than that. Years later my mother-in-law started showing signs of confusion and mood swings. At first it was annoying and frustrating but at some point, we began to realize that there was something seriously wrong. Leap forward another ten years and I received a phone call from a distant, but well-meaning relative to pass on hearsay that one of my aunts was being financially abused. After a harrowing year and the dust all settled my aunt was diagnosed with dementia. She had also been swindled out of all her life savings. Dementia and various forms of cognitive decline are happening all around us. It is common for people as they age to start to worry about their own brain health. When we lose our train of thought or have trouble remembering something we start to fear the onset of dementia. It is natural to wonder if this could happen to me. Or if there is anything I can do to prevent it. In 2000 I became certified as a Brain Gym instructor and since then I have continued to study brain health and fitness. From all my research I put together a fun program that lays out what things are the most beneficial to keeping our brain fit and I have been presenting the program to businesses, community groups and schools. The problem with live on-site presentations is that people need to travel to attend. That takes additional time and expense and if the time slot doesn’t suit them, they need to wait until it is offered again. I have been thinking of creating an online version of my program and I have been dabbling at it. However, I don’t want to build something and then find out that nobody’s interested. What do you think? Should I build an online course to teach you lifestyle strategies to help you build a defense against cognitive decline? See more
