We're fawning over "Spotted deer and autumn flowers" in our Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art's collection. Sika Deernative to Japan, Eastern China, K...orea, and southeastern Siberiaare one of the few deer species to keep their spots into adulthood. An unidentified artist painted them over (real!) gold in this 19th-century piece from Japan's Edo period.
