Poinsettias are stunning and can make our homes feel more festive in an instant! Some folks find poinsettias to be a challenge, however, so here are our tips to help you out: Watering: Do not let poinsettias become too wet or too dry. Lift the pot and feel its weight. If it feels light, give it a good drink of warm water. Feel the weight of the pot after watering to get a sense of how heavy it is when wet. Don’t water again until it feels light when lifted. When you water, ...water thoroughly and only use warm water. If you have a saucer or pot cover that holds water underneath the plant be sure to drain out any excess water in order to prevent root rot. If there is a problem with your poinsettia, it is usually due to watering. When in doubt, look at the soil and roots and adjust your care accordingly. Light: Poinsettias prefer bright, indirect light. Temperature: Try to keep poinsettias away from excessive heat, drafts, or cool open doors and windows. They prefer temperatures between 63-68 degrees F (about 17-20 C). Note: Despite having a bad rap, poinsettias are not poisonous to pets or people.
