SHOVEL YOUR SIDEWALKS There’s no doubt the snow is beautiful but it can also be a hazard. Ensure your neighbours, passersby and you are safe by keeping sidewalks and pathways clear around your home. Clearing snow from your sidewalk is not only the neighbourly thing to do, it’s also the law. In the Township of Langley, owners are required to clear snow from sidewalks fronting and or adjacent to their property within 24 hours of snowfall. Go the extra mile and help those who may not be able to get out in the cold, slippery weather as easily. Helping your neighbours shovel is not only courteous it’s a great form of exercise!

This project was a special one for our team and an honour to restore. This inviting space has served as our sales office but has also become host to many of our weekly team meetings we can’t help but feel at home here!

DE-ICING DRIVEWAYS With snow comes ice, and with ice comes slipping which means if you haven’t already, it’s time to think about preparing our driveways and sidewalks. Beware though, that not all ice melting products are created equal. Here are some quick tips on how to prepare for the slippery weather. CLEAN your driveway. Remove sticks, leaves and wash any loose grime or dirt. REPAIR any cracks. Take care of any holes or cracks to avoid water damage. STOCK UP on a de-ic...er. Although rock salt may be most effective, it can cause immense damage to aggregate surfaces. Opt for a product like potassium chloride or magnesium calcium acetate. Alternatively, you could use kitty litter or sand to aid traction, these will not aid in melting ice. HUSSLE with the shovel. Clearing snow as quickly as possible can do wonders. Be sure you have a good shovel and some elbow grease to tackle those flakes. SIDEWALK maintenance is also the responsibility of homeowners in most Municipalities. Be sure to maintain the areas near your home and help out any neighbours that could use a helping hand! See more

FIRE IT UP Backyard barbecue season is here and it’s time to get your grill primed and ready for use. Be sure to start each new grilling season with a thorough cleaning. Excessive carbon buildup can cause uneven heat distribution, harbor bacteria and wear the life on your burners. Clean the burners - fire up the grill and let the bbq come to temperature. Let it run for a good 45 minutes burning off any remnants and grease. Grab a wire brush and bucket of warm soapy water a...nd scrub the debris from the grates. Soak grates and vacuum once cooled, remove the grates and soak in a large bucket of soapy water. Remove knobs, burner tubes, warming racks and give the inside a good vacuum being sure to suck up or scrape off any hard stuck gunk. Wash and polish with a clean bucket of soapy water gently wash the exterior of the barbecue. Be careful of steel wool or abrasive clothes as to not cause scratching. Dry wipe the barbecue with a gentle microfiber cloth. Spray the bbq with a stainless steel cleaner or white vinegar and give a it good wipe to reveal that nice clean shine. ESC Planning A look at the ESC on our Phase II. In this photo you can see the three square pools of water which aid in the prevention of erosion and control of sediments from leaving the construction site. Where there is direct or indirect connectivity to water the lack of ESC can result in the loss of fertile topsoil, filling of lakes and streams, increased flooding, damage to plant and animal life and structural damage to buildings and roads. FROSTY GROUND IS COMIN’ It’s that time of year again and before it gets too cold in the Fraser Valley we wanted to send out a few important reminders when it comes to hose bibb maintenance. Follow these steps to avoid any problems once the warmer months approach. Remove the garden hose/accessories from the hose bibb - Regardless of what kind of the hose bibb you have, frost proof or not, it’s important to remove these items. Leaving a hose/accessory attached is the biggest c...ause for hose bibb problems come spring. Inspect for leaks: It’s important to repair any leaks or drips you find. It doesn’t matter how much water is leaking or the speed of the drip, the water can build up and freeze in the pipe or fixture causing major problems. Frost Free Hose Bibb Care: To winterize a frost free-bibb, shut the water to the off position on the hose bibb (no need to shut off the valve inside) and disconnect the hose! When you leave the hose connected, the 4-12 chamber is unable to empty. When the chamber remains full, the line can then freeze and split. IT'S NOT THAT EXHAUSTING Ensure your bathroom exhaust fans, and range hoods are operating properly. As air is drawn through the fans, dust and debris can build up over time. Cleaning the cover and motor housing a couple times a year will remove most of the accumulated dust. Step 1 - Remove the cover, gently pull down on the cover to expose the fan; then squeeze the metal mounting wires on either side and slide them out of their slots. Step 2 - Allow the cover to soak in soap...y water for a few minutes. Then scrub the fan cover with a cloth or dish brush removing all dirt. Step 3 With the power off, safely use a vacuum to get rid of dust on the exhaust fan Step 4 - Take a damp microfiber cloth and wipe down the fan components and housing to remove any remaining dirt. Step 5 - Put the cover back on by inserting the mounting wires back into their slots, and gently push the cover into place. #miracondevelopment #homeownermaintenancetips
