I felt the need to respond to some of the emails that I have received from members in regards to the money that was given to our guild and where a portion of it was donated to or where it was spent. Before I get into the details I want to take this opportunity to thank Betty Doyle and Susan Fowlie for putting together a group of ladies to make over 900 masks for Shannex. A lot of money was paid to these ladies in the amount of $7000.00 which they decided to donate it to th...e Miramichi Quilt Guild which they didn't have to. This is very honourable on their part. Sometimes the executive have to make decisions that are vital to save human lives without the members and this was one time. I don't think I could live with myself if I brought in the members just to vote on approval to where we can donate money too. We the executive unanimously approved $2000.00 to be divided into four ways to these following local organizations: Women's Shelter, Red Cross, Hospice, SPCA. Betty Doyle and Susan Fowlie were approached by the Miramichi Regional hospital to make masks. They in turn approached Stephanie Johnson to get the ball rolling. I was approached by Stephanie to purchase fabric for the vital cause. Again we the executive met and pass that a cheque be made out to Stephanie in the amount of $500.00. Stephanie did purchase fabric from two local shop owners who are members of the guild. I personally approved $215.00 for 1/4" elastic which are vital for the masks. And this was before the fabric was purchased. Stephanie will be contacting some members to help in the making of these mask. I am hoping that this answers some of the concerns that our members have. Thank you, Rita Martin, President of the Miramichi Quilt Guild.

Given the current situation, the decision to err on the side of caution has been made to suspend all Guild functions until the end of March. So there will be no Tuesday evening meetings and no Thursday workdays. An evaluation will be made at the end of March, on future activities. So please keep an eye for an e-mail notification at that time. Thank you, Rita
