Bush Hogging 7PM Saturday evening. I said "Colin it's Saturday, don't you have someplace to be" ? He said, "it's Saturday, thought it was Tuesday". Yup it's a bad fishing season.

First day of summer and the first salmon plowing by MSC. It's been awfully hot but we've seen several over the past 2 weeks in the pools while getting ready for opening day today. We need rain badly and no more 90F/32C days, in fact we hit 97F Friday, water is cooling nicely the past 2 days.

Hopefully this rainbow is luck for the season. Water is very good now, fishing is as usual for early June with not much happening. I've been out over a 5 mile stretch for a week now, nothing but a few dozen shad in one spot yesterday. Cheers and tight lines, we need a good season.

Very windy the past few days, not many on the water. I hear the fishing is slow with mostly grilse being caught. Water is low and cold, I don't think they are moving much. Some think the fish are leaving but I doubt that, they won't leave until the water is above 45F/7C. If we get a good rain Friday I think things will pick up next week. I haven't been out but nice to see all the boats on the weekend, fishing and not catching is not so bad after all. I had a very good friend from Nova Scotia, John Dodge, he said more than once "there's more to fishing than fishing". He was a prisioner for several years during WW2, kind of puts things in perspective.

Looking through an old guest book at MSC and came across these two fishermen, August 29, 1986.

DFO and the ASF say they they won't support the CAST program until it's a crisis situation, if this isn't a crisis I don't know what constitutes one. In the month of August, always our worst month, we caught 7 grilse and 33 bass, wow, usually we get about 80 salmon and grilse. In the past week or so, we've had perfect conditions for the fall run, caught a couple of green slimy brook fish, not a fresh one. The Miramichi is dying fast and nothing is being done, a 100 million dollar industry for New Brunswick is going down the tube. Keep up your ignorance for this situation and we can use the river for tubing and canoeing. So sad.

Hot weather last weekend slowed things to a crawl but a salmon and 3 grilse landed this morning. Even a moose cooling off. Very happy bunch, thanks Chris.
