Ruby is now out of her kennel

Rain is out of her kennel Rain is a beautiful kitty that came into our care last September (2020) with her 5- three day old kittens. Four of her kittens have been adopted. And the 5th one named PB, lives with us. He has Megacolon and requires special care. Rain has been scared of us. Although she doesn’t growl or hiss we can’t touch her. ... She has been living in her kennel for 8 months! So we decided she needs to come out. And we now have the space blocked so she can’t get into the basement and hide. Last night we opened her kennel doors. It took about 15 minutes but she came out! Rain explored close to her kennel. She even went into the closest window and on a cat tree! We don’t know if she’s ever been on a cat tree since she was found outside. She did amazing. We left her kennel doors open so she had a safe familiar pace to go to. We are so excited to see her out and exploring. Things like this make me so happy

Spooky went home on Tuesday after being officially adopted back in September. He is one of the kittens found by a school. He was pretty tiny and wasn’t doing well. We were told to euthanize him but we didn’t give up. Spooky was at Pembina for a few days and then came to our home for at least a month. ... He has grown so strong. Eating everything and so playful. He really thought he was one of my kitties. He would sit with them waiting for food and even started using the big litter boxes. On Tuesday he was finally able to get his vaccinations and go to his forever home. His new mom had been waiting a long time. It was hard to say goodbye as we were really used to having him around. I know he will be loved and he does have kitties to play with in his new home. This is why we don’t give up and euthanize. And it was so worth it. Thank you to everyone that donated to his bill

We had a Double Adoption on Tuesday Two of our kittens (that have been in foster since they came in) went to their forever home after they were vaccinated Adoption 85 & 86 are Ecco & Willow named by their new parents... Our beautiful Meesha had to go to the vet today. Now she was diagnosed with Pancreatitis. I’ve never dealt with this in all the years of having cats. And having the Cat Cafe for 4 years. ... Cats with Pancreatitis need special diets and the food is quite costly. They will also be more difficult to find homes for because of this. This is why I would love to have a sanctuary for cats with disabilities and health issues.

Yesterday we had an emergency. The black kitten who has been officially named Spooky, from the School Kitties suddenly started to show signs that something was wrong. He was going to the corner of his kennel and meowing quietly. Then I noticed some diarrhea. Things were off so we grabbed him and went to our vet. Unfortunately our vet wasn’t in. So off to Pembina Veterinary Hospital. ... Spooky was not doing well. He was barely moving. Little meows coming from him. I was so scared we were going to lose him. He was taken inside. Because of COVID I had to wait in my car. He is negative for parvovirus! Which is great news. They did keep him for the night. He received fluids. On a drip to raise his blood sugar (it was extremely low). He was kept in an incubator because his body temperature had dropped so low. Good news. He is doing good. Eating, sleeping lots but interacting with them. Still on a drip but his blood sugar is good. He is on antibiotics because of an infection. The doctor seems to think that Spooky is a kitten that just wasn’t doing well due to genetics or because he’s been taken from his mom too soon. They call them poor doers. If he had of been living outside he wouldn’t have made it. Because I am still so worried we agreed another night in the hospital would be best for him. I’m just not confident about bringing him back to Cafe yet. I’m terrified. I’m really hoping Spooky will continue to do well. The second adoption of the day is a Double Adoption The cute little kittens found near a school have been adopted They are adoptions 75 & 76 ... We have called them the School Kitties for now. They still need their vaccinations and they will go home in a few weeks once they are old enough to be vetted.

A mom and 5 kittens came in today from a rural animal services (they’ve been waiting a week). All black except for one grey kitten. I’ve had calls for: 2 kittens One kitten ... A 6 year old cat that the owner moved and now the cat needs a home. Emails and messages to take cats. Plus I still have cats waiting to get in. Another mom and 4 kittens next week. Today I just feel defeated. I’ve said we are full to a few calls already. We are out of space and sitting at 51 cats and kittens in our location. We’ve broke our own record. And although I’m working to give information to fosters (we haven’t had fosters before so this is new to us), every cat we take in is still our responsibility, vetting, food etc. I’m worried about getting in over my head. Lites is going to need her dental work done sooner than I was hoping. Estimated at $1400 I want to help every cat. I worry what happens when they can’t find a shelter. Are these cats/kittens just thrown outside? Today I’m angry at people for giving cats up so easily. For not spaying and neutering and dumping. There are so many cats that need help. I just don’t know what to do.
