Miss Eastern Region 2020

I’ve been really reflecting lately. I’ve been thinking about how I have 4 weeks left of online school, and then I’m finished high school. I’ve been thinking about how after I’m done, I won’t get a prom, or a graduation, or even get to visit my high school in the future as it’s getting torn down this summer. I’ve found myself constantly worrying about what I’m going to do this fall, and if I really want to start my post-secondary education online, without an orientation week,... or moving into residence, or meeting my new classmates. But I’ve also been thinking a lot about what good could come out of this. I know that if I were in school right now, I wouldn’t be able to do all my school work while sitting outside in the sun, or experiment with a new recipe while I listen to a lesson. I’ve found online learning very difficult, but I enjoy learning at home. I enjoy being able to ask my little sister to be my partner for my kinesiology project, and dancing around the house with my mom in between classes. Anick did an amazing webinar for the MNO girls yesterday about dealing with disappointment during this time and a new positive way to look at this situation. And I’ve found that yeah, this sucks. This might be the worst time in my life so far. But as Anick said, we need to be reminded of the beauty that is happening around the world. This time is helping us to slow down, spend time with our families, and smell the roses. I’ve definitely had more time to watch sunsets, find new hiking trails, observe how many different birds actually land in my backyard every day, and learn how big honey bees can get. Something GOOD is coming. You have to have the lows to appreciate the highs. Look at the positive! Life sucks right now! But it’s also so much more beautiful! Hang in there. Life will be back soon. But for now, watch more sunsets, laugh more with your family, and learn to appreciate even the horrible things. We’re all still growing. We’ll be okay. Thank you if you’ve read this far! They will be $10 each and the selling of these candles will go towards Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer and my required funds for my Miss North Ontario Journey!!
