A couple helpful tips on some easy fixes First I will start by saying that we DO NOT ever recommend anybody without any electrical training to attempt to troubleshoot or fix an electrical problem in their house on their own as it can be extremely dangerous !! However there are a few situations where you may find things aren't working as they should and fixing it might just be as easy as the push of a button...literally ) If you find yourself in a situation where the ...power is out in your bathroom? Or maybe some of your counter plugs aren't working, perhaps it's the plug on the outside of your house? But the breaker hasn't tripped? There's a very good chance you have a tripped GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) on that circuit which is designed to cut off power to anything being powered from it in the event of a ground fault. A GFCI will most often look just like every other plug except it will have a "test" and a "reset" button on the front of it and is usually located on circuits that may be exposed to water or moisture. When they are tripped all you have to do is push the reset button in the middle. Easy peasy...However, if you find it continues to trip regularly or will not reset, it would be best to have a professional look into it ) When you have a breaker trip in your panel you may not know that you have to reset the breaker before turning it back on. Also you could easily mistake the breaker to be damaged because when it is in a tripped position it feels kind of loose and will not turn on..but most of the time it just needs to be reset! To do this you will want to switch the breaker all the way to the off position and then switch it back on. Again..if this happens regularly or the breaker will not reset..call an electrician Don't ever hesitate to call a professional if you're not sure ..it's always better safe then sorry especially when it comes to electricity
