Mormon was a man who lived in ancient America, about A.D. 311-385. He was chosen by Jesus Christ to preserve and protect sacred records, as well as add his own history and experiences to them. The records which he wrote and preserved would later become The Book of Mormon. In the October 1990 General Conference, President Gordon B. Hinckley spoke of Mormon, the prophet, historian, and leader who was selected at age 16 to lead the army of the Nephite civilization. Following is...Continue reading

One of the spiritual highlights of serving a mission was teaching people about prayer and subsequently hearing what was often their first vocal prayer. I was raised in another faith and early on was taught "The Lord's Prayer." It was recited as part of our worship service. I very much enjoyed reading this wonderful prayer in this week's Come Follow study of 3 Nephi 12-16. I love remembering the context of the prayer. Jesus Christ is teaching and (in effect) "modeling" element...Continue reading

Arise and come forth unto me, that ye may thrust your hands into my side, and also that ye may feel the prints of the nails in my hands and in my feet, that ye may know that I am the God of Israel, and the God of the whole earth, and have been slain for the sins of the world. (3 Ne. 11:14) Jesus Christ lives! He conquered death by taking on the sins, pains, and afflictions of mankindpast, present and future. His sacrifice brings immortality to all. His atonement is infinite. His plan is eternal glory and exaltation. His love is endless.

Jesus has asked that we live together in love (Doctrine and Covenants 42:45) with no disputations among you. (3 Nephi 11:22 see also 3 Nephi 11:28) He that hath the spirit of contention is not of me, He warned the Nephites. (3 Nephi 11:29) Indeed, to a great degree, our relationship to Christ will be determinedor at least affectedby our relationship to each other.... --Elder Jeffrey R. Holland

Fourth of July in the USA...a little different this year. No firework show over the Pismo Beach Pier, but we still look forward to a wonderful day with family and a celebration of the founding of this great nation--a nation of freedom we pray will endure until the Second Coming. As far as the gospel goes, what must we do to endure to the end? When I consider the word "endure" I immediately think hardship. Stephen E. Robinson said, "Most frequently, the scriptures use the term...Continue reading

If you have ever wondered how we can fulfill our duty to walk blameless before our Savior, consider these words which the prophet Alma preached to the people in Gideon about 83 B.C. "And now I would that ye should be humble, and be submissive and gentle; easy to be entreated; full of patience and long-suffering; being temperate in all things; being diligent in keeping the commandments of God at all times; asking for whatsoever things ye stand in need, both spiritual and tempo...ral; always returning thanks unto God for whatsoever things ye do receive. And see that ye have faith, hope, and charity, and then ye will always abound in good works...And may the Lord bless you, and keep your garments spotless...in the kingdom of heaven..."
