Today we are shining the spotlight on our two newest assistants - Caitlin and Alysha! Caitlin lives in the area with her cat Cleo, dog Cody and her horse Trinket. She is currently studying animal health sciences at the U of A, and has a particular interest in surgery. Caitlin volunteers at a horse rescue in Calgary, and if she isn't there she loves to get away to the mountains and go skiing. Alysha also lives in the area with her dog Arlo. She is currently studying the ani...mal health technician program through NAIT. She has a particular interest in animal behaviour. Alysha also works at a boarding facility and daycare for dogs, and loves the opportunity she gets to meet different animals each day. Both of these girls are a wonderful addition to our team and we are lucky to have them! Welcome Caitlin and Alysha #staffspotlight #newteammembers #missionridgevet

Here is a feel good client highlight for your Monday morning (clearly these photos were taken a while back) Pongo is a 2 year old Dalmatian that comes to Mission Ridge. He has been attending school with his owner every Thursday since September. Here is some of the amazing things that Pongo does at the school, written by his owner, "Pongo has been attending school since September. He has taught many different lessons on emotions, safety, empathy, and responsibility (to name... a few!) He starts the day by greeting my students at the door, they are always excited and can't wait to see him. He sits and waits while they each walk in and pet him good morning. He takes himself around the room to greet my students while they are completing their morning work. The students are responsible for filling his water bowl and giving him lunch. (This job rotates because they ALL want to do it!) Pongo gets to show off his tricks, gives high fives, prays, waves, twirls for the kids. Pongo also enjoys playing fetch with my students! He has been such a positive addition to my school and all our students can't wait to see him on Thursdays!" We love when Pongo comes to see us in clinic, and we love to hear about the positive joy he brings the students at school #stalbertpets #dalmation #emotionalsupportdog #learning

Together with the rest of the nation, we are remembering and honouring our veterans. The legacies of different generations of Canadians who made the ultimate sacrifice as well as the men and women who are serving today must always be remembered. Their bravery, strength and skill helped safeguard and create the freedom that we have today. May we never take for granted all they have done for us and for our country. We will be closed Wednesday, November 11th. We will be open our regular hours on Thursday. #RemembranceDay #LestWeForget

Blue-green algae thrives during hot seasons and can be found in non-flowing water including rivers, pools and decorative ponds. It makes the water look murky like pea soup or as if paint has been poured into it. Blue-green algae can FATALLY POISON all types of pets, but its especially harmful to dogs. There is NO antidote for the toxins that it produces. Immediate veterinary care is crucial. How to Protect Your Pet: - If you see water with algae blooms, do not allow your dog... to swim in it or to drink it. - If your pet comes into contact with the algae, rinse them with fresh water, take them to your veterinary team, and call your Pet Poison Helpline right away. - Know the symptoms of poisoning: difficulty breathing, lethargy, vomiting, seizures, convulsions, drooling. If you have any questions, please contact our hospital at 780-458-3833.

Dr. Wilson loves to practice acupuncture on all patients big and small! Veterinary acupuncture involves placing small needles in certain points on a patients body to help promote a healing response. Most of our patients tolerate this extremely well, and owners can notice the response relatively quick. #veterinaryacupuncture #acupuncturetreatment #veterinarymedicine

We are now allowing public into the building for appointments only! All food and medication orders will remain as curbside pick up. Please continue to call ahead and order any food and medication orders. #covid19protocols

Mission Ridge Animal Hospital 10.09.2019

We have exciting news! As of Monday, July 13th, we will slowly be starting to allow the public into the clinic. With that said, we have some important things to note : - Only ONE client allowed per appointment. You must wear a mask, and sanitize upon entry. - We are required as per Alberta Health requirements to record your name, phone number and email address for contact tracing purposes. - We ask that while you are in the exam room, to maintain social distancing. The vete...rinarian will bring in an assistant to hold your pet for their examination. It is still preferred by our staff that you stay in your vehicle for your pets appointment, however if you wish to attend you are welcome too. Our doors will still remain locked, so continue to call upon arrival so we can let you in. You will not be let in early if you arrive early for your appointment. All medication and food pick ups will still remain as a drop off style, and we ask that you continue to pay over the phone for these items. We appreciate your cooperation with our protocols. If you have any questions, or need to book your pet in, call our clinic at 780-458-3833 and we will be happy to assist you!
