The Coldest Night of the Year event is coming in February. It typically attracts around 200 Missionites, all aligned with a good cause raising funds for homelessness. This year, the event is different and is virtual. That means that there are new, unique promotional opportunities for businesses who want to align with this cause. This includes curated walks linked to your business location, extra social media promo, and toque pickup locations (could be in front of your business!). Does your business want to sponsor the event? Contact us to discuss! Let’s get creative.

We've been really busy at MY House lately. We're so grateful for how Christmas was so good to us and our youth. It's time to get ready for the Coldest Night of the Year fundraising event! Hundreds in Mission have enjoyed this event as a way to raise funds for MY House and our friends at Hope Central. This year, Covid can't stop us! Our event will be safe and virtual. Jingle jingle! Had the pleasure of meeting one of the amazing MY HOUSE Elves, Samantha to catch up and hear about our vulnerable youth and how they are all doing with the COVID lock down situation. So much has changed, Oh, hark ye Herald Angels sing! I do BELIEVE (that's a double-edged candy cane) that this too shall pass, and we can reunite together once again. Want to thank our Samantha and all the other Santa Helpers who took the time to organize, drive around and shop f...Continue reading

Tonight some of our team are sleeping outside to help raise awareness and funds for homeless and vulnerable youth. The most recent homeless count found 332 youth homeless in the Fraser Valley. In Mission, MY House cares for up to 20 homeless youth each month. Many more are at risk. This is our 3rd year participating in this sleeping outside event. It has always been done in a parking lot. This year, due to Covid restrictions, we are all participating in our own backyards. Th...is will be closer to reality of what the youth we have cared for have experienced. Most homeless youth we have worked with go to a makeshift camp in the woods around Mission. Tonight, some of our backyards are a mini forest that includes bears, raccoons, killer squirrels... Should be an interesting night! By making a donation to our team, you are continuing our active and prevention work, proving tangible help, caring support and a way out. https://www.youthunlimited.com/sleep-ou/mission-youth-house Thank you for reading, praying and thinking about this issue!

MY House has been busy lately preparing a new event in Mission! Did you know that unsafe homes, addiction or mental health challenges are all pathways into youth homelessness? These challenges are faced by our youth. On December 4, we’re hosting #YUniteOutside to sleep outside in solidarity with and support of vulnerable youth. Register to sleep outside: www.youthunlimited.com/yunite ... Held at Heritage Park (with less than 50 people), we’ll be keeping distance between sleepers and their bubbles. You’re invited to join MY House staff to a physical experience of advocacy, while tangibly helping homeless and vulnerable youth in Mission. Sign up, donate and share about what you’re doing! Event designed in consultation with District of Mission to ensure COVID safetyprotocols. Organized by Youth Unlimited in partnership with MY House.

Autumn is here, swirling and howling in full force with sheets of rain and gusty winds! Oh, how I wish it would blow COVID away but that is not the case. This Pandemic has changed everything, how we live and how we interact with others has been dramatic BUT the one thing I know for sure that has not changed is the Youth who continue to come to MY HOUSE every day! I dropped in Friday afternoon to the House and had a great visit with our Samantha and we caught up on what is ha...Continue reading

Connection is key to having a healthy and nurturing life! Feeling the love when a youth, who is living on their own, called looking for some "nourishment" and was happy to deliver some snacks and do a "wellness" check on them and find they are thriving and surviving the Crisis. It is so important to keep in touch with our youth, so many of them having little or no family support. Know that we miss spending time with you; LOVE you and know that we are all in this together! You... can call any time to chat, vent or whatever, we're "all ears". You can also drop by the House for resources, counseling, and other services. Was also pleased to get a call from folks at St. Joseph's Food Bank offering snacks and drink mix, so I did a drive by/pick up and dropped off the goodies at MY HOUSE/Youth Shelter. Was good to see that several of the youth (who are homeless) have been staying and using the Shelter (run by our Mission Community Services Society, we are so grateful) as their safe haven; a place to rest, adult mentors to talk to and share stories, have showers, do some laundry and get food and snacks. Also excited to share news of another youth, who has gone into treatment and recovery and is also thriving, we are so very proud of you and how far you have come! You are amazing and an inspiration to all of us! The youth is healthy, physically, and mentally and continues to strive towards making a better life for themself, setting goals that they can manage and have support of loved ones to help them. We know the struggle is real and can be a long road but the benefits of living a better life are worth it! Don't ever give up, we are all here to support you whenever you need a lift. Little steps, small goals and self-praise always helps too, you deserve the very best life has to offer. So many of the youth that have come to MY HOUSE over the years have struggled with neglect, abandonment, homelessness, domestic violence and abuse, some form of trauma and when somebody rises above all of that, we want to applaud them for their self-determination and will power to change their life around. You are all worthy of being loved and deserve an amazing life! We are so blessed that we live in a Country/Community that wants to help our vulnerable youth, especially during this bad situation/Crisis and so grateful that there is an Overnight Shelter available to them at this time. It is also with gratitude and thanks to our amazing Community, family, and friends, for your ongoing support and kindness that we continue HELPING YOUTH FEEL AT HOME.

Ernie's Weekly Thoughts from MY HOUSE As the World Turns and continues to revolve, was happy to oblige and excited to drop by MY HOUSE, it's been a while! At their request, also went to St. Joseph's Food Bank and filled up the truck with goodies, snacks, etc. and bottled water for our youth at MY HOUSE and the Overnight Youth Shelter, thank you so much for your ongoing support. Was also a pleasure to see and visit with our Barry, one of our amazing Youth Workers and Adult Me...ntors. Also met a few youths who are using all the resources, including the option to stay overnight, because they are homeless. We are so grateful that MY HOUSE/Youth Shelter is available for them, a real safe haven, especially during this pandemic. We want to thank Mission Community Services Society for establishing the Overnight Shelter because of the extreme need due to the Covid outbreak. Without this service, many of our youth would be homeless, living on the streets and in camps where there are many dangers. MCSS will continue to provide this valuable resource, while MY HOUSE begins to re-engage their services. MCSS Staff, Youth Unlimited, Fraser House, IMPACT, Xyolhemeylh, Youth Workers, and Social Workers are also helping, and for that we are so grateful. Thankfully, more new youth are coming to use our resources but sadly, we have seen an uptake in substance use by many of them. They are struggling with trauma, for many reasons, including the various restrictions brought on by Covid and many need counseling. We are so grateful that our easy going and friendly Scott is "mobile" and willing and able to help when needed. Please feel free to call or text him any time. Youth can also come to the door at MY HOUSE and utilize the resources (laundry, showers, meals, snacks, ID and CERB applications, etc.) and receive guidance from staff; we are waiting for you to drop by and support you. We want to stay connected and we're "all ears" and know that we don't judge, and you are LOVED unconditionally! Must admit, one of the things I miss dearly, along with just hanging out with our youth and cooking meals together, is giving HUGS, physical touch is so important and please know that they are sent virtually, full of warmth and LOVE! We also note the Mission Youth Clinic (situate at Fraserview Learning Centre) is open. You are always welcome to call and chat or make an appointment to discuss your mental/health issues with medical and health care professionals. As our Community continues to navigate the ongoing restrictions brought on by Covid, the isolation felt by our vulnerable youth and Community in general, we must remember that we are all in this together, we must be gentle with one another, and there is HOPE. We are also blessed for the ongoing support and kindness of our Community, family, and friends in HELPING YOUTH FEEL AT HOME.

Hello All! This event is coming to Mission in July and will be supporting MY House! 40% of the proceeds will be donated towards our cause in Helping Youth Feel at Home and getting the services that they need. SHTG just finished in Victoria where they donated towards the Canadian Armed Forces Charitable Campaign that supports burn victims. They had a massive turn out and the city cannot wait for them to return! Many participants shared photographs and stories about how they found places and learned about local history that they never knew before. Be prepared to encounter goddesses, meet royalty and explore our city. Please go to the EVENTS Tab for more details AND email [email protected] if you are interested in participating in the Hunt your next big adventure!

MY House is pleased to be able to adjust to the times so that care for the youth can continue. One of the partners in the collaborative, Mission Community Services Society, has been able to step up and provide 24/7 shelter at MY House during the pandemic. This means that youth can be sheltered while being protected in a safe environment. We are so grateful for their courage and desire to go the extra mile to ensure that youth have as much support as possible. Daytime youth workers will still be able to assist youth with a variety of supports such as laundry, showers, meals, connection to other services, help in obtaining ID, CERB benefits, counselling and more. https://www.facebook.com/Mission-Community-Services-Society-352367314847313

Eggstra eggstra, read all about i! That's right, the Easter Long Weekend is here. We are hopeful that people will stay at home when they can. We are so grateful that MY HOUSE is open as an Overnight Shelter for our youth during this Crisis. Much thanks to our amazing Samantha who is helping to run this Program and can help the youth who come to stay and consider MY HOUSE their temporary home and a safe haven. All volunteers have been suspended at this time and special direct...ives and hours of operation have been put in place to ensure the safety and health of the Staff and youth. It is also the ongoing consideration and concern of our Scott, Samantha and Roger that we are able to keep MY HOUSE open during the week for youth to come and get a snack, use the downstairs laundry, showers and bathroom facilities if needed. We are grateful for all the support our Community gives to us. On that note, we do not need any more clothing donations at this time, thanks so much but we could use RUNNING SHOES (female sizes 6 -8 and male sizes 8-10) and SNACKS. We note that the mental health of our youth AND Staff is pushed to the limit. We are all unsure of the future and this brings tension everywhere. Let's try and be gentle with one another and stay positive. We will get through this, even if we don't understand what is really going on or what the future holds. Our healing prayers go to all those who have been directly affected by the Crisis, and for those who are in recovery too and those who need that extra word of encouragement and faith. Let's continue to support one another, stay safe and healthy as best we can. Hands up to our Staff for your ongoing counselling, patience and unconditional love for our vulnerable youth, you are amazing! From MY HOUSE to Your House, whether you celebrate EASTER or not, may you enjoy the weekend with family and friends and consider this special time as a renewal for better days to come and for a better life for the World. It is the ongoing kindness and support of our Community, family and friends that we are HELPING YOUTH FEEL AT HOME.

LOVE ACTUALLY is in the air, along with hail, sleet and Snow! Crazy weather, but then You Are My Sunshine came out and washed away the blues and brought us HOPE for a new day. Also grateful to hear that BC Housing is funding an overnight shelter for six beds at MY HOUSE for the next few months, a much needed resource at this time. Most of us are fortunate to have a roof over our heads; a house we can live in, a safe haven and MY HOUSE is just that to our vulnerable youth, ma...ny of whom are homeless and struggling every day just to survive. We are grateful for the House that was provided by the generosity of our Mission Community Services, and the ongoing support from, among others, Youth Unlimited and our Community, family and friends. MY HOUSE is a place where we have made a home for our at-risk youth. During these difficult times, we are also blessed to have adult Mentors, Staff and Counselors available to help them. We are all doing our part and it is a wonderful thing, everybody needs to reach out, listen with an open heart, share our stories and stay positive! New Covid Guidelines have been set in place such that there is frequent disinfecting of all surfaces and personal protection gear provided for staff. Youth can come to the front door to get food, and can enter from the side gate to access, showers, laundry and bathrooms. Via the side gate, (using safe-distance procedures) they can also meet Staff in our beautiful yard or on our covered Deck (thanks again, Lacey Developments, who knew how valuable this structure would become, eh?) to provide mental health support, hand out harm reduction and help with services, support, food and snacks. Again, a shout out to the staff at MY HOUSE for your ongoing dedication and service in helping our vulnerable youth. Word around town is our Scott has been a beacon of strength for everyone, you rock! We are all in this together, we will get through this Crisis. We continue to stay in touch with the youth, either by messaging or texting. Most recently our Calvin advised that they did a face time Video with youth and it was a lot of fun and want to do more next week, what a wonderful idea. Staying connected is so important, and showering them with LOVE is healthy and uplifting too. From MY HOUSE to Your House, stay safe and healthy. We are so blessed to have the ongoing kindness of our Community, family and friends and your support in HELPING YOUTH FEEL AT HOME.

Mission Youth House 31.03.2020

We're still open!

Mission Youth House 13.03.2020

Happy to say that MY HOUSE continues to support our vulnerable youth and staff are taking all precautions seriously, and we like to think of some of them as "the Three Masketeers who are All for One and One for all"! We are so grateful that the youth can still come and grab a meal/parcel at the door and use the side door to utilize showers, bathroom and laundry facilities if needed. Friday, was pleased to make another run to our amazing St. Joseph's Food Bank, thank you so m...uch for your ongoing support; loaded up the truck with snacks, juice boxes, pasta, yogurts, fresh produce (I see Tomato Sauce in the making) and fruit, etc. all great items to hand out and will be appreciated. The Volunteers at the Food Bank were asking about the youth and thrilled to hear that we are still open, even if only to grab food, etc. Much thanks to our Community for continuing to support and give to this valuable resource which is needed more than ever right now as people struggle to put food on the table many having lost their jobs, etc. and outta the mouths of babes, as they say, "Sharing is Caring"! As our amazing Samantha commented, we know how difficult it has been for our vulnerable and mostly homeless Community. Sadly, we realize that many of them don't understand and are scared not being able to grasp why we can't provide regular services and how everything has changed so quickly, even in the last week or so. Every day has been a struggle with new restrictions and bans on almost everything with local restaurants, Community Centres, food and supply shortages, etc. and many businesses closing their doors. But, our Community is AMAZING and also reaching out and doing everything possible to help our vulnerable folk and will continue to do so. Our staff, Adult Mentors and Counselors (Roger and Scott you ROCK) are talking (and texting) to youth and others about the importance of reaching out to talk about their worries. We are here to help and share in the struggles and fears that we are all facing. Our Mental Health is so important and we all want everyone to stay POSITIVE. We want you to know that you are LOVED, that we are good listeners and want you to share your concerns. Remember, we are all in this TOGETHER! As the World continues to watch and wait, we are grateul that MY HOUSE remains open to our vulnerable youth. We note that we need male clothes (thanks for a recent donation, January) and grocery/shopping bags for take-away parcels, thank you very much. As we all continue to take care of one another, from MY HOUSE to Your House, stay safe, healthy and keep positive! We are overwhelmed by and feeling blessed for the ongoing kindness and support of our Community, family and friends that we are HELPING YOUTH FEEL AT HOME.

Can you read this? Are you healthy and safe? Hooray, then YOU ARE ALIVE! Can't help but wonder as we drive around and see people running around with face masks and gloves, the hoarding of toilet paper, food, and other goods, and the constant news feed of the Covid Virus that has paralyzed the World, if we've all gone a little bit mad in the head. Let's stay calm, let's help one another, even if that means we have to keep our distance. We can still show kindness and LOVE and ...Continue reading
