MCC wishing @evanbezemer all the best as he hangs up his High-Performance Sprint Canoe Paddle! A note from Katie Vincent: (@katie.20.100_) Evan and I go way back, to the start to be exact. We were young, wild, and free; ask any of our coaches who the highest energy kids were. We splashed, tipped, drove to Welland (a lot), raced overseas, and we chant Go Missy Go! until our voices run out. You never forget your friends who help you carry trophies, thanks for always having ...a helping hand buddy - Katie Evan remains dedicated on the MCC Board of Directors as Athlete’s Rep! Head over to @evanbezemer insta page for his full heart felt retirement post. #goMissyGo!

MCC continued our annual CHILLY WILLY RUN tradition today with the Senior HP group running two distances: The 'long' route is approx 21-22 km starting at 'Beaver Tails' in Queens Quay and the shorter route of 14-15 km starting at the Humber Bay Arch Bridge. This year we could not host our Chili Potluck, but parents had water/hot chocolate, and treats ready when they picked up their superstar runners at the MCC finish line! Thank you to the coaches for organizing! Another incredible effort by all! #GoMissyGo!

MCC is extending a big WELCOME BACK to Blake Hara, joining our coaching staff this week! Blake was one of MCC's very best athletes back in the 1990s winning many National championship medals and representing Canada at international competitions - most notably winning a bronze medal at the Junior World Cup in 1992. Blake transitioned into coaching at the MCC and had success, especially with the grass roots development of Women's Canoe. Blake went on to become one of Canada's ...most successful dragon boat coaches, leading his crews to multiple to World Championship titles over a distinguished career. I basically grew up at the club, and on the river occasionally in the river too :) I love paddling. I love coaching and I look forward to learning from the pros - Kyle, Doug and Tamas - some of the best coaches in the country. - Blake >>2001: founded SPC -Sunnyside Paddling Club (known as National Dragonboat Club in the early days). >> 2001 - 2007 Premier National Team Coach (Blake’s National Team Program won three Nations Cup Championships (2001/2003/2004) - unmatched to this day by any other national program! SPC became North America’s largest paddling club with over 2500 members at its peak in the 2010’s. >> Partner in Paddlecore; corporate teambuilding events, programming, software development, and coaching development and certifications. >> Regional distributor for Ozone Canoes, a Hawaiian outrigger canoe builder. As a young paddler at the club I learned so much about paddling and teamwork from my fellow paddlers and coaches. These experiences shaped my life to this day, and have taught me the importance of friendship and commitment to excellence. This summer my kids paddled at the club and I’m reassured to see that not much has changed and the same priorities apply; I’m very happy to be back at Missy as a coach!

Missy Fun on the Horizon!!! Mississauga Canoe Club Club Championships!!... With all scheduled regattas cancelled this summer, the coaches have planned an inner club Championships for MCC athletes to showcase their training results. For nearly five months, MCC athletes have been diligently following a regimented training routine as if they were preparing for the usual late August Canoe/Kayak Championship events. For nearly five months, MCC’ers have suited up and practiced hard. Sweat, blood and tears. Please mark your calendars and come out throughout the afternoon and evening hours to cheer on and support our athletes (from across the river) as they race against each other and themselves in various distances. For many, this will be the concluding event and will mark the end of the season. Your support will be greatly appreciated as these athletes have successfully navigated one of the most difficult canoe/kayak seasons on record. Go Missy Go and see you on the river bank on August 17th!
