Redefining ADOPTABLE In the last little while, we had some perspective changing #adoptions. Animals that normally have people scoffing They won’t get adopted As we are not intaking but looking instead at some animals that have been with us a while we have dusted off some gems who just never got the chance to shine before!... Like KHOVU, he is 16 and got adopted this past weekend! People said who would adopt an old cat? And we found a #foreverhome with his new family who doesn’t care what his age is! They just want to love him for the rest of his days. Aslan was another. He is FIV+ and that comes with a stigma and outdated information. A well fed and cared for #FIV+ cat can have a robust and happy life. He is a #friendly and loving boy so why shouldn’t he at least get the option of forever. He is now happy with his new family who know his medical history and love him, diagnosis and all! Maggie is a happy ending too! She was brought in and expected to linger in limbo of the foster system because she is #diabetic and 12. But how surprised will you be to hear she had over 50 inquires and dozens of applications!!! We spent WEEKS combing through ever application until we found her forever family!! And they LOVE HER!! Sky was surrendered to us because her family were AFRAID of her; and for good reason! They were expecting a sweet lap cat who loved kisses and snuggles but what they had was a sassy, dominant and outspoken girl who let her paws do the talking! She’s been in foster care over a year with one of our long time volunteers who has had to keep her separated and away from her own cats, put up with swats and mood swings due to Sky’s cantankerous ways. Then along came her new mom and dad. We repeatedly explained she extremely sweet when she wants to be, but very ready to swat you when she’s done. They didn’t care! They barely had her a few days of their adoption trial and said they’d never let her go!! Sky snuggles with her new mom on the couch and loves them to pieces, and they respect her space and let her decide when she’s done. These are just 4 of the animals that had been labeled unadoptable and they have shown us that UNADOPTABLE IS NOT AN OPTION!

Wow! How times have changed! Check out this Mississauga Veterinary Clinic who has set up a zoom meeting with a kindergarten class to educate the young minds on animal care! In our new ZOOM led world; we have a much broader and connected channel to share knowledge and engage the younger community members in animal care!... What are you sharing when you connect with others digitally? Do you use Zoom, Facebook messenger?
