MJC Home Improvement 03.07.2021

We are back home after a few weeks away. Booked solid through the summer! Thank you Prince George! Here's a few shots of the job completed at the end of May. A basement bedroom c/w new windows and a "step in" closet with motion light. Laminate floors. The ceiling tiles were refreshed with a couple coats of paint instead of drywall as future finishing of the basement will require access.

What's behind your walls? We recently closed this room in. It's ready for drywall finishing. The outside foundation walls got a layer of Durafoam. It provides about R6 and is a vapour barrier. Then framing, then some more insulation. It's going to be a nice warm room.

We're just at the completion stage of this basement reno. Added a 12x24 bedroom/living room and a small bathroom to an unfinished space. The bedroom has a 4x5 "step-in" closet with a motion light. Basic tub/shower vanity and toilet in the bath. Everything new in both rooms floor to ceiling.

*** Dryer not working well? *** We recently were called to install a couple of exhaust fans in a basement due to increase humidity when doing laundry. We suggested that the dryer vent be checked out. The new owner had a look. - vent was the old plastic flexible tube pulled through a wall cavity. - it was torn and clogged at the bottom. We went in to fix it. ... - gutted the cavity and found the entire area clogged with lint and mould. The plastic hose was torn everywhere and not connected to the outside at all. - the bottom plate of the framing was rotted through. We installed new solid vent pipe in the cavity. A new vent to outside. Used solid elbows for all bends and sealed it all with foil tape. Then some new framing and a drywall patch to finish off. Results:- - Huge fire hazard eliminated. - No exhaust fans needed. - Drying time reduced. (In this case probably over 50%) The pictures examples only (not from this job) See more

A recent tub surround replacement. Ended up taking it back to the studs to get rid of the mouldy insulation. The entire area sprayed with mould killer and put back together.

New vinyl floor in a rental. The owner insisted on going over the old damaged flooring. We would normally remove and put down a new subfloor. We pulled the baseboard, cleaned (and cleaned again), patched and put down the vinyl. New baseboards were installed. In and out in a few days. The owner was extremely pleased with the finished product. An interesting comment was made... "You cleaned, there's no dirt or garbage!" *** Our job sites are clean both while we are working and especially when we are done! *** Top - old floor after patching. Bottom - new floor before baseboards.
