It’s World Milk Day tomorrow! We’re sharing one last milk myth and explaining why it is just that - a myth - to celebrate. Check out our other milk myths posts ...as well! MYTH: dairy farms are nothing more than cruel factories. REALITY: 98% of Canada’s dairy farms are family farms. Family owned, family operated. The average Canadian dairy farm has 90 milking cows. Farmers enjoy spending their days with their cows and treat them with respect and compassion. For a dairy farmer, farming is not just an occupation. It’s our LIFE. Dairying is not a 9-5 job you walk away from at the end of the day. It’s a 24/7 commitment. It’s the highest highs and the lowest lows. It’s hard times, good times, sad times. It’s a lifestyle that’s totally ingrained in every aspect of our families. Being a dairy farmer is not our job, it’s who we are. I think this commitment to and passion for this life we love can be summed up like this: As long as there is consumer demand for dairy products, and barring any unforeseen hardships, we will be here, taking care of our cows, farming under some of the strictest animal welfare, milk quality, and food safety standards in the world. We’ll continue sharing our life with our consumers and interested farm friends all around the world. And we’ll always be proud of our efforts to provide the best life for our girls. Our consumers depend on us to provide them with healthy, nutritious, tasty dairy products, and we’ve committed our lives to filling that demand in the most humane, compassionate, and respectful way possible. And one day, we dream of handing over that responsibility to our children who also have that dairying blood running through them, 5 generations strong.
