Last year I had the pleasure of finally working with my friends at Geekenders when they took the stage at Capital City Comic Con! I filmed both performances that night, and was on schedule to do so again this year before COVID changed our lives. But! That doesnt mean you are without your dose of geeky goodness! Like many who work in the arts, my only source of income was eliminated in early March when the measures for COVID-19 were enacted. It would mean a lot to myself, and my family, if anyone was willing to help support us during these unprecedented times. I wanted to just take a moment and very publicly on the record let my followers know that I am 100% in full support of the actions to support the Wetsuweten hereditary chiefs. A LOT is happening in my personal life right now, and its left me in a position where Im unable to attend these rallies. Im still watching for my opportunity to stand in person with the community I believe needs their rights upheld and not pushed aside by the colonialism and capitalism that are th...e dirty foundations of our society. If you have found yourself angry at the peaceful protests and demands for protection of their land (alternate routes have been suggested to prevent all of this, but the LNG company at the centre of things turned down changing their plans) I would encourage you to keep asking "why" its making you angry until you get right down to the core of your unhappiness. If its racist, unlearn it. If its because you dont empathize, educate yourself. Not everyone will agree with me, nor would I expect them to, but I expect people should uphold the rights of their fellow Canadians. Because one day it may be your door they are banging on, and your home they want to demolish due to convenience and the almighty dollar. Empathy and a willingness to work together would do a lot more than a hard stance and a cheque book.
