A beautiful Full Moon Ceremony was held to honour ourselves, other women, girls and gender diverse individuals who identify as female and our relationship with the Grandmother Moon. It was a time to come together and celebrate life. Thank you to Grandmother Marie Ballantyne for leading the ceremony and to Kevin for being the fire keeper.

MKO hosted a fantastic two-spirit and gender diverse event yesterday! We thank MKO for their commitment to supporting the indigenous, two-spirited, and LGBT2QIA...P* community! One aspect of the event which we would like to continue to reflect upon was the commitment stick, representing everyone's commitment to continued support of the two-spirited and gender diverse community. We as Pride North of 55 hope to show our continued commitment to our community by bringing this commitment stick to our meetings as a reminder of the work we do and our purpose as an organization. Thank you MKO! And a special thank you to everyone who attended the event and showed their support!

It truly is an honour for our team to support impacted families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. It is a very heartbreaking journey not knowing what happened to your loved one and searching for answers. Today, September 12, 2020 a vigil was held at the MMIWG monument at the Forks, honouring Tanya Jane Nepinak. Tanya was last seen leaving her home on September 13, 2011. Nine months after her disappearance, Shawn Lamb faced second-degree murder charges in connection with her death and disappearance. Those charges were stayed. Tanya’s family hopes one day someone will come forward with answers. Please keep the Nepinak family in your prayers.

On September 2-5, 2020 our team travelled to God’s Lake Narrows to support the family of the late Crystal Andrews during the court proceedings for sentencing of the accused. The accused received a life sentence with no chance of parole for 14 years and 10 months for the murder of Crystal Andrews. This was the second time the Court of the Queens Bench proceedings took place in God’s Lake Narrows. The first proceeding was held on January 24, 2020 which was a historic day in ...Manitoba as the first ever Court of Queen’s Bench Court was held in the community of God’s Lake Narrows, a First Nation situated 1037 kilometers Northeast of Winnipeg. The HonourableJustice Martin delivered both the guilty verdict of the accused as well as the sentencing that occurred on September 4, 2020 in the community. I ask that you all speak Crystal’s name and not give any recognition to the murderer. I have dreams of my daughter Crystal, her visits in my dreams bring me comfort, stated Beverley Andrews, mother of Crystal Andrews. In honour of Crystal Andrews and the many other bright young women we have lost, we need to continue working to end the perpetual violence experienced by Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people. The death by homicide of Crystal Andrews has affected the entire community of God’s Lake Narrows. It was an important step to hold the court proceedings in the community as it gave her family and community members the opportunity to be included in the pursuit of justice for Crystal Andrews. Systems need to change to allow for community inclusion and involvement in the judicial process.
