For this year's #nationalphysiomonth2021 the Canadian Physiotherapy Association is putting a spotlight on the role physiotherapy can play in promoting health ageing. Physiotherapy has been shown to improve many of the factors associated with ageing such as strength, balance, coordination, flexibility and pain levels!
Isn't this the truth! Happy Mothers day
Going for daily walks or runs is an excellent strategy to promote good mental health. We have noticed that a lot of our staff and patients have developed new walking routines during the pandemic. Tell us about how your physical activity habits have changed in the comments!

We have protocols in place so that you are comfortable and safe during your treatment. In-person treatments are still available. Each patient will have their TM20 treatment in a private room and work 1:1 with a kinesiologist in one of our three treatment zones. Each zone has been measured to be more than 6 feet apart so that you can easily distance yourself from others. Send us a DM if you have any questions about our COVID-19 protocols!
"I realize that change takes time, but for the NCAA to think they didn't know about this five-plus years ago is crazy." CLF medical director Dr. Robert Cantu wa...sn't surprised by a new study published this week finding 72% of the concussions and 67% of head impacts in college football over a five year period happened in practices. Dr. Cantu says the data is the latest testament to the need for reform in college football to protect the brains of its players by limiting full-contact practices and innovating to simulate tackling. College football fans will want to hear more from Dr. Cantu in this U.S. News and World Report story on the new study:

MMTR's five reasons to choose telehealth: Day 4. Telehealth sessions are just $60 for a 30 minute session or $100 for a 60 minute session. These appointments are billed as physiotherapy so you can submit your receipts to extended health insurance for reimbursement (if applicable).
Did you know that we still offer telehealth appointments? Even though we are open for in-person appointments, we understand that you might still prefer video sessions! Keep your eye on our page next week as we publish "Five Reasons to choose Telehealth"!

MMTR's five reasons to choose telehealth: day 3. COVID-19 has introduced a new set of challenges and concerns for physiotherapy patients. If you are not comfortable with in person appointments, or you are waiting for a COVID-19 test result you can book telehealth appointments to continue your recovery progress.
We are excited to welcome a new staff member to the team, Kaitlyn! Kaitlyn is taking on the role of clinic assistant, so you will see her at the front desk and running the "beds" area. She has a degree in marine biology from the University of Guelph and is in the process of completing the Conestoga College physiotherapist assistant program.
MMTR's five reasons to choose telehealth: day 2. We have patients who live just close enough to drive in for treatments, but just far enough away to not be able to come as often as they'd like. This is a great opportunity to choose a hybrid plan and do some in-person and some telehealth sessions! We also know that sometimes you might not be comfortable driving if there is bad weather or you have high symptoms. In this case, there is no need to cancel your in-person appointment - you can convert it to a telehealth session instead!

It used to be thought that teens will recover from concussions faster than adults. This study found that teens actually need a longer recovery period. They suggest that teens take at least 30 days before returning to sport. https://www.news-medical.net//High-school-athletes-are-at-

We know that helmets do not prevent concussions, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't wear one! Helmets can prevent serious head injuries such as skull and facial fractures. #concussionresearch #tbiawareness https://www.physiciansweekly.com/helmet-usage-reduces-seri/
Text message appointment reminders have been disabled for the next few days as our text message service undergoes maintenance. Email reminders will still be sent as usual. We apologize for any inconvenience!

The norms are appropriate for use in clinical interpretations of an individual’s performance, said Robert Stern, a neuropsychologist and professor of neurology at the Boston University School of Medicine who raised some of these issues in a declaration submitted to the court in 2014. But when they are used across the board in an algorithm to determine monetary compensation, it is inappropriate and results in injustice and racial inequities. https://www.nytimes.com//f/nfl-concussion-racial-bias.html
Introducing our newest team member, Brittany! Brittany recently graduated from McMaster University's Kinesiology program and is in the process of studying for her college of kinesiologists exam. You may see her at the front desk, or working in the "beds" section. Welcome to the team, Brittany!
