Making a prop for a book trailer in 7 easy steps. This is the tool/weapon the main character of Cur Dogs uses (my second book). I built it so I could use it in the book trailer. To watch the trailer or to learn more about the book, visit www.mnseeley.ca Here’s what I had to do:... 1. Design. I used a hatchet as inspiration. After drawing the tool I redrew it in Adobe Illustrator to get a vector line. 2. 3D. I taught myself Blender (3D modelling software) to create the tool in 3D, being mindful to create it suitable for printing. 3. Printing and construction. I printed the tool in 6 pieces and glued it together using metal pins for support. Bondo was added to fill in and smooth out the seams. 4. Painting. After painting it with black primer, I layered in multiple light passes of blues, greys, black, cream, white and silver. Fake grime and oil was painted on. 5. Details. I added some hardware to give it dimension. Final paint details were added. The handle was built up using soft foam and leather. Thick thread was wound around the handle to give it a unique texture. 6. The holster. I created a template from cardboard first. After getting the design I wanted, I recreated the template in soft foam sheets to further refine the layout. An old satchel provided the leather. The stitching was done by hand (it wasn’t done to be durable. It only had to look good on camera). 7. The duck. I made it, printed it and stuck it on. You’ll have to read the book to know why there’s a duck.

Fake, alternate timeline, 1978 magazine ads are fun to create. Here’s one for Kreuger Footwear and Livestock. It’s not even mentioned in the book, but I like knowing it belongs there. Someonesomewherein the story surely came across this ad in a magazine at some point. Maybe they wanted boots like the ones worn by the main character, a Chaperone.

This is cool stuff. Can’t wait to see the final product... maybe even get my hands on a game.

Yeah, I know. It’s another graphic promoting my second book. How many more graphics can I possibly post? Will I ever stop? I will... eventually. Incidentally, you can buy this book on Amazon in either paperback or eBook. Learn more at www.mnseeley.ca

From A Flicker Of Shadows (my first book): The Watcher had a face, though I could still not make out the details. By indirectly looking at the Watcher, I was able to catch a pale glow where one might expect an eye to be. There then came to me a muddy awareness; a flavour of familiarity that was twisted and freakishly sour. The middle of its face was extended and longer than that consistent with human features, yet the suggestion of humanity radiated from the Watcher; something nightmarishly human-esque and intelligent was still obscured by the darkness.

To read the full review by Leonard Tillerman (author and book reviewer), go here: https://leonardtillerman.com/cur-dogs/ Even if you don’t care for my work, I know you’ll find a book on Tillerman’s site that’s right for you. Read independently published books. There’s a world of quality entertainment that seldom gets recognition.

If you read my novel (Cur Dogs) you’ll know why this muscle car is called Persuader.
