KEEP BEES IN THE CITY! REPOST from Calgary & Area Beekeepers FB. Link in my bio to take action! Hello Beekeepers,... If you support keeping bees in the City of Calgary, please read the following: The recommended Responsible Pet Bylaw, that includes keeping honeybees in the City, will be presented to the Standing Policy Committee on Community & Protective Services on May 12, 2021, and then to City Council during a Regular Meeting of Council on May 31, 2021. The bylaw will be posted for public review on the City website sometime on May 7. Beekeeping has been included in this proposed bylaw, but it doesn’t mean the bylaw will pass. In fact, this is an opportunity for the public to voice their opinions including those who do not support urban beekeeping. CDBA members respond to beekeeping complaints for the City and there are unfortunately, many people who are afraid of bees, hate bees and oppose having them in the City. Feels like I’ve been doing little jobs between little jobs the last few weeks. Wednesday’s are my delivery day and there’s always tinkering to be done to grow the apiary. The birth of a new year means another year for MOB. We turned 3 on January 1st! I’ve been reflecting on some obstacles pre-MOB and the difficulty it took for me to close the doors of a crappy, controlling partnership and how silly those obstacles seem now. Blazing into 2018 with full autonomy, I opened my own door and launched my own business. MOB - A Calgary apiary with some great honey Before the launch, a few branding ideas floated around before choosing the logo you now... know and love Looking at these pictures I see a girl with a lot of ideas and ambitions. At what point does an idea cross over to reality? For me there were many rubicon’s but MOB started to really feel real by the beginning of the second year. I’ve learned Beekeeping & business are very much different things. In the first month I was excited to create a brand, one out of an intense passion for bees and love for nature but also with an edge or boldness that didn’t exist in our market. Little did I know MOB would grow into something so much more. The community in which we live in, the connections with other bee-enthusiasts, the mentorship from people in farming, apiculture and business have been an unexpectedly nourishing journey. I look back and remember the early mornings with my Spolumbos family and the people that cheered on everyone’s dreams. They made it so easy to nurture my sideliner My mom had several severe strokes the first summer of MOB. I’m sure you all have similar experiences with family, when you have to give everything - your strength, love and energy to those who need it yet still maintain strength, integrity, growth and resilience in your work (sometimes multiple jobs). It was hard on all the levels but we all made it through the journey and came out strengthened as a result, especially mom. Everything I do is in a way, for mom. She’s had a tough life and all I want is to provide for her the stability and adventure she gave to me when I was young. I feel so grateful for MOB and it’s achievements, connections and for all of my supporters. So, thank you for cheering me on and bringing my honey and blends into your home and sharing with those you love

Hey all! My name’s Amber and I run this joint over at MOB. Who knew a napkin doodle would turn into this beautiful beast of a business. I feel so grateful to have followed this path. The people I’ve met along the way (the goofy and the serious ) but also the critters who want to meet me (the slimy, buzzing, loud and the furry ) are piled up micro moments that make my heart sing. I love playing with my dogs and well.. playing in general.... I think failure is hilarious. Even if the experience was painful the story will always be funny. I try my best to figure out how to fix equipment and build fragments of my imagination but it is also very nice to fall on resources when the mind (or lack of tools) can’t work it out. My twin brother, father, friends and IG pals are all great resources who are handy and thoughtful people. The forest is my charging station. Any ecosystem with fungi, moss and trees will give me an imaginative and tangible adventure. I try to be positive, patient and kind and love what I do.
