An established fixture on the Toronto real estate scene and someone who frequently captures the construction at MOD’s buildings, Joy Von Tiedemann made her mark in the industry by shooting everything from fashion to portraits, interiors, and more, before landing in construction photography. In our new blog post, we spoke to Joy about what she’s learned in various disciplines and what her career has taught her.

MODxToronto: Toronto often seems like a very gray city (especially in winter), and the Royal Bank at Danforth & Pape, with its gleaming white terra cotta cladding, is a welcome sight. Built in 1925, and designed by Bond & Smith Architects, it was added to the City’s Inventory of Heritage Properties in 1983. Unlike many bank buildings from this era, it is still in use as a bank.

For Marie, the liveability of a home is just as important as its aesthetics, the balance being what inspires her as MOD’s Director of Design. Over 16 years ago, she found the perfect outlet for her creativity and love of real estate in the world of Interiors. As a graduate from the International Academy of Design and a finalist on HGTV’s Design Interns in 2006, Marie began her career at Cecconi Simone and has since worked on projects around the world. She is a Registered Interior Designer and an active member of ARIDO (Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario) and IDC (Interior Designers of Canada). When she’s not on a job site or dreaming up new ideas for MOD’s latest endeavours, you can find Marie boarding a plane to explore another corner of the world.
