Life is too short. Grudges are a waste of perfect happiness. Laugh when you can. Apologies when you should and let go of what you can. Take chances. Give everything and have no regrets. Take the good with the bad. Find intentional breath. Love what you got and always remember what you had. Grow from your mistakes, but never regret the need for growth.

Making Time Some people argue that time is an agreed upon construct, that we have become slaves to our watches. We quickly lose track of time, which may impact us on losing sight of whats important. You hear in yin yoga to hold for time and during this time of year, nothing could be truer. Throughout the season of joy and merriment, we are pulled in many directions physically, emotionally, geographically. Often not finding the time to just be.... This year, more than ever, I have learned the importance of time. To feel all emotions with no time frame, anger, happiness, love and grief. Throughout all, I had to make time to breathe, to sit in stillness. My hope and wish is that we all truly consider the value of our time. What does that look like day to day? Hour by hour? Each of us has, at some point, wasted time. Take pause. Find time for things, activities, people; the things that set your soul on fire. There is no such thing as spare time. There is only now Jo VanGroningen Modo Yoga Cambridge Teacher

Let’s just all take a moment and take a communal breath, shall we? If there is anything this year has taught us, it’s the importance of evolving and shifting. As we shift into Phase Red, we want to say again that our communities safety continues to be, as always, at the forefront of our focus. 2020 has no doubt been a tough year to be a small business, but we couldn’t have done it without your continued support. Christine and Emily have been working behind the scenes over the... past week to prepare for this transition and to ensure that your experience at Modo Yoga Cambridge continues to be as magical as it has always been. Effective Monday morning, we will be utilizing our front studio in conjunction with our hot room to allow for 10 students to practice in each room at the same time. Both rooms will now be heated and our teachers will be live-streamed over the speaker system into the front room. Picture this; a toasty nighttime Modo Class in the front studio watching the snow fall over Downtown Cambridge- sounds pretty magical! Our Fitness Based classes will be a maximum capacity of 10 people, and you can also attend both our Monday night Barre class, as well as our Thursday morning Modo Fit class virtually. We will be sending out an email shortly with further details that will hopefully answer any questions or concerns you may have. Thank you again for your support during these uncertain times - we promise to keep evolving, shifting and pivoting to ensure you can keep getting your Modo on. Keep on shining bright, even in these uncertain times.

Because you’re a human, doing the very best you can... Yoga is a practice of mindfulness. It’s a way to connect your mind and body. When you are aware you notice all the intricacies that play out in so many ways on your mat. Students with great trepidation, and shame have often apologized that they did not hear a word I said in class. We respond as we always do: That’s okay.... Sometimes amidst the hectic whirlwind that life often is of work and family and friends and trying to sleep eight hours a night and drink your water and cook and avoid BPAs and get your vitamin D, in the winter especially, fitting in a yoga practice, no matter how good for you you know it will be, seems like another thing on your mile long list of things to do. Against the odds between work and grocery shopping you manage to squeeze in the time to make it to your mat. You run in two minutes before class with a look of complete panic in your eyes and the fumes of the last coffee you needed to get you to the end of your day trailing you in. You land on your mat out of breath and unfocused. Throughout class you mentally make the grocery list. What can I make for dinner? I don’t feel like cooking. I’m hungry. I shouldn’t have had that cake at the office. Without any thought on your part you somehow make it to the end of your sixty minutes and are resting again. And as you rest, you wonder how did I get here? I don’t remember anything the teacher said. And with a desire to be absolved from this yoga guilt you confess, I wasn’t paying any attention. Class just flew by. And we’ll answer as we always do: That’s okay. And it is. While yes, of course, you get more out of your practice when you are mindful and attentive, sometimes you are just doing your best. It took all you had to pack a bageven though you forgot your mat, and clean underwear for after class and get in your car, whether you’re peeling yourself off the car seat in the summer or your teeth are chatting in the winter, and behold it’s a Saturday and the market is still on so you have to circle the lot three times before you find a parking spot. And that’s all okay. Because you are a human doing the very best you can, and sometimes the best you can do is put your body in the room. So even if you coast through class, and don’t hear a word that was said, please hear this: thank you. Thank you for coming. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to be here. With complete sincerity and thanks, we appreciate you overcoming countless obstacles and showing up because you’re doing your best to do something good. Amy Brohman Modo Yoga Cambridge Teacher

Benefits of a regular yoga practice Stregthen your Immune System Now more than ever the importance of maintaining a strong immune system is vital. Did you know that a regular yoga practice doesn't only do wonders for your mind and body, but also strengthens your immune system. Stress is one of the leading causes of sickness, and when we're chronically stressed, the deep tissue that surrounds our organs, muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments (called fascia) is compromise...d. Because fascia is made up of nerves, we need to move and stretch our body so that this fascia can be "rung out. By incorporating yoga into our routines, we can significantly strengthen our body’s ability to combat sickness. Alongside this, our blood needs oxygen to keep the body healthy and aid in cell growth. Intentional breath-work gives our blood the boost of oxygen required to generate new circulation; so let's continue to land on our mats, find intentional breath and keep our immune systems thriving See more

Y’all remember hugging? Gosh, we miss hugging. Now more than ever it seems like the world needs some kindness. In honour of #worldkindnessday we thought we’d share our top 5 ways to be kind today 1 Start with yourself: yes, you’re at the top of the list. What’s one simple thing you can do that fills you up? Maybe reading a book, or a solo walk in nature 2 Jump on a call with a friend you haven’t connected with in a while, just to check in ... 3 Pay it forward and buy the person behind you in line a coffee 4 Be kind to the earth and pick up some litter at a local park or walking trail 5 Do something that makes a special person in your world happy; make their fav dish, tackle an item on their ‘to-do’ list; whatever their love language is, find a way to show them some

Benefits of a regular yoga practice Strengthen your heart You've probably heard one of our teachers talk about "opening your heart during a class - what does this even mean?! Well - many things! For one it might simply mean 'softening' or 'relaxing' -- But on a more physical level, a regular yoga practice can truly have postive benefits on that amazing muscle inside your chest. "Yoga can reduce high blood pressure, bad cholesterol, and stress, all risk factors for hear...t disease", says Larry Phillips, M.D., a cardiologist at the NYU Langone Medical Center. And it's not just the chill factor of your yoga practice that does this. Spending time in savasana is associated with greater improvements in blood pressure compared to simply lying on the couch. This is one of the many reasons why this 'simple' posture shows up in our Modo Yoga sequence 3 times.

Do you ever find yourself laying on your yoga mat before the start of class thinking of all the items on your 'To Do List'? Sometimes these simple tasks can almost feel overwelhmeing. However, these simple tasks can take us back to the rhythm, the way of life we're seeking. How often do we think we don't want to be bothered with laundry, bills, dishes, yard work. We have other things to do, more important tasks to complete on this journey we're on. Doing the ordinarty tasks doesn't take us away from life's magic. These tasks are the rhythm. The simple tasks keep us grounded, they show us how life works. Restore and maintain order around you, and you'll feel order flow into other areas of your life

Right now, this moment, things are working out. As humans we have a way of trying to control, shape and form - always trying to figure things out. We worry, we wonder. Trust that everything is working out, moving forward, evolving. There is a rhythm, an energry, a life force that continues, that shapes, that grows. You don't have to fight, resist, control or really even understand it. All you need to do is be be present for your life, your love, yourself. - Melody Beattie

Benefits of a regular yoga practice: Building better relationships Love may not conquer all, but it certainly can aid in healing. Cultivating the emotional support of friends, family, and community has been shown to improve health and healing. A regular yoga practice helps to develop compassion, and greater sense of equanimity. The first Yama of Yogic philosophy is 'Ahimsa' which has an emphasis on avoiding harm to self and others This philosophy trickles off the mat an...d into the world helping foster compassion, relatedness and and a better relationship with self, friends, family and loved ones. So as the '60s balad goes 'Come on people now, Smile on your brother, Everybody get together, Try to love one another, Right now'

Benefits of a regular yoga practice: Training the mind and body to relax Yoga encourages you to slow your breath, relax your mind and focus on the present; shifting the balance from the sympathetic nervous system (or the fight or flight response) to the parasympathetic nervous system. The latter is calming and restorative; it slows breathing and heart rates, decreases blood pressure, and increases blood flow to the intestines and reproductive organs. So whether it's been a particularly hectic start to the day, or you just need a little "Me-Time"- we promise that 60 minutes of @modoyoga will be just the ticket

Hello, September As we move into the last quarter of 2020, it's easy to look back on the last 9 months and focus on the challenges, upsets and things that didn't quite go as planned. With 4 months remaining in what is sure to be a very memorable year, we've decided to make the most of it; to find balance even when the ground beneath us feels wobbly, to take each moment one breath at a time, and to focus on moving forward.
