Growing up in Hamilton, Vanessa Henry ‘13 knew very little about her background. "I was told ‘I’m native’ and I should be proud of who I am," shares Vanessa, "but I didn’t know what that meant." Today, as a Wasa-Nabin worker at Hamilton Regional Indian Centre, Vanessa supports urban Indigenous youth ages 13 to 18. Wasa-Nabin is Ojibwe meaning "To look ahead," so in many ways her role is to support youth on their journey to adulthood. Read Vanessa’s story in the latest issue of InTouch -

Equipped with a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, Lina Yonnadam ‘18 turned to Mohawk College with a clear goal in mind. She wanted work experience that would complement her previous education. In the summer of 2020, Kary MacMillan ’18 was presented with a problem and an opportunity. Working as a proposal coordinator at construction Demathieu & Bard (CDB) Inc. Kary wanted to use a drone to film the work her company was completing on the Rainbow Bridge. ... Although filming a bridge may not sound like a huge deal, this one in particular would require the drone or Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) as known in the industry, to fly in restricted airspace over an international border crossing. Not fully licensed to operate a RPAS Kary contacted her former professors for help to show her company’s leadership that RPAS can have a great benefit to their operations. Not only do they provide an efficient way to examine large and difficult to access structures, they provide a safety benefit as well.
