Food Diversion Friday wraps up Waste Reduction Week, so let’s take a look at some interesting facts about organics/food waste and how these statistics impact our landfills. ~ It is estimated that individuals and households across Canada waste more than $10 billion worth of food annually. ~ Canada’s 2.2 million tonnes of avoidable household food waste is equivalent to 9.8 million tonnes of CO2 and 2.1 million cars on the road.... ~ When organic material is sent to landfill to decompose it releases methane into the atmosphere, which is a greenhouse gas 23 times more potent than carbon dioxide, and is the single largest waste stream found in landfills. When composted food waste can turn into a valuable nutrient in compost it can then be applied to farming. When broken down in an anaerobic digester methane can be captured to produce renewable natural gas. Thank you to Recycling Council of Ontario for the information and the initiative with www.wrwcanada.com. #molokna #wastereductionweek #changetheworld

For Plastics Diversion Thursday, we’re going to look at durable plastics that are not for single use, but capable of maintaining their appearance and durability. Using these durable plastics like polyethylene or Eon framing also help with diverting waste from landfills since it is designed for long term, permanent use. Let’s take a look at Eon! EON: ~ Mould, water, insect and UV resistant.... ~ Contains recycled materials diverted from landfills. ~ Any scrap produced in the manufacturing process is reused. ~ Production produces zero emissions and recycles all water used in the manufacturing process. ~ Can be recycled or reused. ~ Does not contain PVC, which can be harmful to the environment. #molokna #wastereductionweek #changetheworld

Molok North America, along with our friends at Marcc Apparel held a walk-a-thon to raise funds in support of Cancer Patient Services in Mount Forest. We had a lovely afternoon at the local track, counting our laps and tracking our kilometres with safety protocols in place. Thank you #marccapparel for participating in this challenge with us! Pictured below: Mark Hillis from Molok, Sharon Wilson from Cancer Patient Services and Trish Rohrbacher from Marcc Apparel, along with some snaps from the track.

Today is E-Waste Diversion Wednesday, and part of this segment includes what we put in many of our electronic devices: batteries. There are 20 to 60 batteries in use at a two-person household at any time, and in 2004, an estimated 450 million consumer batteries were sold in Canada and approximately 348 million were discarded. What kind of benefits come from properly disposing of expired batteries? ~ reduce potential contamination of groundwater sources ~ reduce the cost and e...nergy use involved in manufacturing batteries and other materials ~ reduce the amount of hazardous material in landfills ~ 60% of alkaline batteries are made of manganese, potassium and zinc which can be reused in fertilizer as a micronutrient #molokna #wastereductionweek #changetheworld See more

It’s Waste Reduction Week! This inspiring initiative brings greater awareness to waste diversion and how everyone can make a difference. In following our dedication to helping to make the world a better place, today, for ‘Textile Diversion Tuesday’, we take a look at some interesting facts about textile recycling. www.wrwcanada.com #molokna #changetheworld #wastereductionweek #textilediversion The average person throws away 37 kilograms of textiles each year, and 95 per cent ...of those clothes could be reused or recycled? Globally, textiles waste has increased dramatically due to the rise in clothing consumption and production. Designing and producing clothes of higher quality and providing access to them through circular business models will shift the perception of clothing from being a disposable item to becoming durable. Durable clothing can be handed down, reused or repurposed into other items such as satchels, coin purses or crafts.

Marja Hillis was a trailblazer, leader and visionary. In her early 30’s, after successfully launching the original Deep Collection concept for waste and recycling, Molok, in her native Finland, she and her young daughter landed in Canada to introduce the revolutionary waste containment system to North America. Marja had her hands full launching the innovative waste and recycling product that broke from tradition, in a male dominated industry. Only through her business sens...e, sheer will and tenacity, she succeeded, and Molok North America was established. Marja kept to the original key business tenants, keeping the environment at the forefront, ensuring the end user was always top of mind when enhancing the exciting product line and when developing new products. 21 years later, to recognize Women in Business week, we pay tribute to a leader whose business sense and core philosophy built Molok as we know it today and has allowed us to continue expanding the business throughout North America. http://www.molokna.com///women-in-business-week-a-tribute/

As part of our philosophy at Molok, we believe in taking care of our environment, both globally and locally. This year, the Ontario Provincial Government procla...imed May 12th to be the "Provincial Day of Action on Litter" in Ontario. To help do our part, Molok employees grabbed garbage bags yesterday and ventured into their local areas to clean up litter. See more

We at Molok North America Ltd. support our friends at Earth Rangers! Their most recent campaign of symbolically adopting animals is such a great idea. We chose the polar bear. A set of 25 polar bears in the wild will be outfitted with non-invasive GPS collars to track movements and behaviours. Experts at York University can then use this data to help protect these beautiful animals. We love our adoption package and encourage you to participate!

Molok North America Ltd. 17.03.2020

On June 7th, Molok North America celebrated 20 years of business in Canada with a night filled with joy, juggling, and a few tender moments of reflection. With Marja's memory in our hearts, we heard thoughtful words from special guests, friends and dignitaries, sharing sentiments on our journey so far. Our special guest speaker, Marnie McBean, shared inspirations to help us through the next 20 years and beyond in business. On the eve of our 20th anniversary in North America, we at Molok North America Ltd are very excited as we partner with the City of Raleigh, North Carolina. Our Molok container, innovated in Finland in 1991 was developed as a global Deep Collection solution for places like this. As the inventor and pioneer of the semi-underground garbage concept in the world, we are experts in this field and look forward to lending our almost 30-years of global experience to the good people of Raleigh and North Carolina. #molokna #changetheworld https://www.cbs17.com//downtown-raleigh-to-get-/2033120787

A few of us from the Molok North America team travelled down to Woodstock Ontario to help process Operation Christmas Child boxes. During our afternoon shift we had processed over 6200 boxes to go to needy children in places like Guatemala, Venezuela and the Ukraine. Here are some highlights!

Molok North America Ltd. 02.01.2020

"It was our pleasure today to come together as a family at Molok North America along with our friends at Cook School Bus Lines to assemble gift boxes for children, kids who may never have received a gift, and certainly not from a stranger. Operation Christmas Child, a part of the organization Samaritan's Purse, is an organization that does just that. Last year Canadians alone packed over 615,000 boxes. We are glad to be a part of that this year. I am looking forward to 2019 where I hope to challenge local business owners in and around Mount Forest to come together to support this amazing adventure. Joy to all at Christmas, Mark"
