What you see in this touching photo from Serge Martin's facebook page is probably this gentleman's full set of possessions. I see clothing, items to sell when he needs money to buy things he needs. I also see a purpose, feelings of safety, and so much more. (Serge is an excellent photographer, and this photo was shareable, so I have taken the liberty to share it here) What you don't see is how this came to be...how our systems/policies are keeping people living like this.... What I hope you will look for is how you can use your power to change this picture in Moncton. The Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness has rolled out a national campaign aimed at ending homelessness NOW. I encourage each and everyone of our GMHSC members, partners, and supporters to share this far and wide. And I implore you each to act now on the recommendations CAEH has suggested. We have one opportunity to change what you see in the streets in Moncton. Please act now to make it happen. The GMHSC members need everyone's voice added to ours so that it can be heard. https://caeh.ca/caeh-launches-recovery-for-all/

As we just pass 3 months of dealing with a global pandemic, the Leadership Council of the Greater Moncton Homelessness Steering Committee, wanted to take a moment to recognize our own members who have been working on the front lines of homelessness day in and day out during this time. It hasn't always been easy to know what to do ("there is no playbook"), to adjust to new ways of doing things on the run, and to keep up with all of the changing information that elicits fear... and anxiety amongst most. Staff and volunteers brought ingenuity and showed great resilience in adapting their service delivery to keep themselves and everyone safe. They showed up with the same level of care and concern for people living on the streets and in our shelters, and housed and living in poverty. It's really remarkable - not surprising, because we know these people well - but remarkable that service didn't seem to skip a beat and in many cases was elevated. We can’t agree more. Thank you to our community essential workers. You are seen. You are appreciated. And the work you are doing is helping so many people through this very difficult time.
