One of our IT teachers, Geeta, wrote a blog about how Mongio teachers use emergent curriculum, activities and a lot of creativity to help develop academic skills trough play. Please check it out by following the link: https://mongio.com/learning-to-grow-or-growing-to-learn-by/
Children in Chestnut enjoy exploring light versus dark. They have used a light table, different types of paint and paper.
All of Mongio's children have been doing fun explorations related to Halloween or Fall. Here are some fun moments :)
Some fun fall activities currently happening in our infant/toddler programs!
Mongio children know how to take advantage of a rainy day: have tons of water play!
Our little ones are really enjoying configuring the balance beam in different ways for maximum challenge!
In two of our infant/toddler classes the children helped bake pumpkin muffins! This was a delicious extension of the pumpkin exploration we have been doing.
It's lovely to see the children gathering together and reenacting social situations.
Remembering and honouring our soldiers and their families today.
Happy Thanksgiving! We hope you are all having a safe and enjoyable holiday!
One of our teachers had painted and decorated these spools, and we have found many ways to use them. Children have used them as tables, chairs, turn them on the side and pretended they were wheelchairs, etc. Here, Birch children use them as comfy chairs to read together.
With Halloween around the corner, children have been enjoying a variety of games and activities that relate to fall, monsters and other interesting creatures.
This fun game allows the children to play cooperatively as they push and pull on the connected strings. Sometimes, a simple game made of recycled materials can be extremely entertaining for the children.
The OSC children often take the bus to school, but for the Infant and Toddler group, going inside is a very special treat!
It's amazing to watch really young children discover their reflections. They are so mesmerized, studying them very closely! One of the children was even brave enough to walk across the mirror, although you could see he was hesitant on whether the ground was really "there".
Christina, one of Fir Room's teachers reflected back on a behaviour we often see our toddlers displaying: finding cozy, small spaces to crawl into. Please follow the link to read the blog.
At Mongio we experiment with many types of materials and art, to help children discover their favourite mediums!
One of our Chestnut room teacher's recently wrote a blog post on Car Seat safety. Please follow the link and check those easy safety tips! https://mongio.com/car-seat-safety-by-kim/
In Bamboo room, our preschool, children can practise fine motor skills with fun sorting games. It's a fun challange to tackle either together or individually.
For the last Pro-D day OSC staff created an amazing enchanted forest in Maple room. There was a "cave", river and even river crossing area.
The preschool children really enjoyed following along with the teacher to attempt some simple yoga poses. It's a great way to ground and calm the children, while also allowing them to get some energy out.
The Chestnut classroom explored charcoal. The children enjoyed this medium and the fun side effects of smudgy hands!
All the children love to take care of babies, whether they are infant and toddlers or 3-5's! It's a great way to promote caring and empathy for others, and also prepare the children for any younger sibling that might be coming
We love having all the rooms collaborate to create something new.
In every room, children's and teachers discussed the importance of this day, in a way that was appropriate for the different age groups.
Catherine, one of our teachers, wrote a blog about art as process versus a "finished" product. Please follow the link for an interesting read! https://mongio.com/art-as-a-process-not-as-an-end-product-/
Stacking blocks is a fun way of practising fine motor skills, but the children go even further, using their imagination to create barriers, meals and intricate designs.
We love to see the older children taking initiative and helping the younger ones!
At Mongio, we feel that every child matters and honor all children who are in our care. Today, on Orange Shirt Day, we discussed with our children and staff the importance of acceptance and showing each other we care and that everyone matters. In the attached video, Alexis shares a story of three friends whose lives were impacted by not being accepted for who they were. https://youtu.be/YT3JBi0BXk8
In Fir and Cedar the children have been investigating birds for a while, and the teachers keep finding creative ways of keeping the children interested and engaged in this research.
Lareina, one of our Pine room teachers wrote a blog, reflecting on the importance of honouring the children's feelings and allowing them time to adjust during transition times. Please follow the link to read it: https://mongio.com/transition-time-for-children-by-lareina/
The Out of School Care children worked hard in making a great home for these seedlings! It will be great to see them grow and (hopefully) produce some apples!
The children love to be included in any preparations for an activity we are making.
