Stanley is a highly reactive fearful dog, we are working him at a Walmart parking lot, mixing in obedience with behavior modification. Obedience will help a little, but it will NEVER 'fix' a behavioral issue. At this stage, we are trying to desensitize Stanley to various environmentals, while respecting his thresholds. In the future we will employ other techniques such as the 'step-back recall' , 'controlled flooding', and 'setting up the dog for failure'. Currently we are setting Stanley up for success by working some obedience with light distractions in the background. This will desensitize him a bit as he can't take any direct pressure at the moment such as head-on interactions, even a stranger staring at him could trigger as viscous reaction.
Working on some remote collar heel with Stanley. It's important to get some baseline obedience before adding in distractions. We are walking on a quiet street back and forth. We are looking for that loose leash and relaxed stride. Dog should be by my side, ideally in follow mode. If the dog is walking beside then it doesn't need much space. All he has to do is relax and follow and I will take care off the rest.
Stanley is a very fearful and reactive dog. Here is some footage of him meeting other dogs and the progression as the days pass by. The most important thing to achieve is CO-EXISTANCE. Don't try to force any friendships but rather get the dogs to co-exist! This is just the beginning of Stanley's rehab, the REAL results will come weeks and months down the road!
Working on some off leash remote collar recall with Big Bowie. The ecollar is a fantastic tool that allows us to communicate with our dog from up to a mile away! Montreal K9 Training specializes in on leash and off leash obedience, aggression rehab, and behavior modification. Meeting Stanley for the First Time, even his handlers are having a hard time getting him out for a walk. This is inside their home, imagine how difficult it must be on the actual walk.
