Well, one of many reasons... And this list doesn’t even include breastfeeding & postpartum!
Just LOOK at this happy dad! I ADORE capturing the magic of those golden hours,post-birth, and the joy the birth partner holds a special place in my heart, too. Which leads me to... NEW BLOG POST, FOR PARTNERS! My aim is to clear up some misconceptions about the doula v. birth partner role. I would LOOOOVE some feedback on this one, especially from soon-to-be parents. www.moonbeamdoula.ca
Today is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. Whether a spark of promise, a flame extinguished, a baby born sleeping, or one who could not stay, big to all who have been touched. Our grief is real and altering.
More milk-making superpowers :)

I know I know, it's been long enough...but ... FINALLY, a website!! Here's a taste: https://moonbeamdoula.ca/2020/09/02/who-i-am/
Hey baby As you grow, you’ll come to learn that you’re part of a huge new baby boom. One that’s resulted from our world going into a pandemic, and everyone go...ing into quarantine that lasted months long. You may hear terms like quarantine babies, quarantiners, new gen boomers. I want you to know that you are not a product of the quarantine. Whether we were to have a global pandemic or not, you’d be here. You are a product of love. Of desire to grow our family. Of major major baby fever . You were not made from boredom, from being stuck at home, and definitely not on accident. You were made to complete our little family, and I’ll forever tell you this until you’re old and grown. We love you, little babe. And we want you to know how darn special you really are. In exactly one week we confirm whether you’re baby brother or baby sister. We’ve been calling you baby brother all along, so we’re excited to see if it’s correct. instagram.com/mackenziestorck #19weeks #19weekspregnant #duejanuary2021 #repost Mackenzie Storck
Summer heat calls for a postpartum meal that’s just as tasty served cold. This mild Moroccan-spiced couscous with chickpeas for extra protein, kalamata olives, and fresh basil and chard from the garden (helloooooo vitamin K!) was a pleasure to assemble for a new family. Birthers - what was your favourite post-labour meal?
In this article, 'EBM' stands for "Evidence-Based Medicine". https://www.sarawickham.com//evidence-and-decisions-two-/
Pretty much sums it up. Warriors, all!
There was something so valuable about what happened when one became a mother. For me, it was the most liberating thing that ever happened to me. Liberating be...cause the demands that children make are not the demands of a normal ‘other.’ The children’s demands on me were things that nobody ever asked me to do. To be a good manager. To have a sense of humor. To deliver something that somebody could use. And they were not interested in all the things that other people were interested in, like what I was wearing or if I were sensual. Somehow all of the baggage that I had accumulated as a person about what was valuable just fell away. I could not only be mewhatever that wasbut somebody actually needed me to be that. If you listen to [your children], somehow you are able to free yourself from baggage and vanity and all sorts of things and deliver a better self, one that you like. The person that was in me that I liked best was the one my children seemed to want. From Toni Morrison and Motherhood. Thank you Toni Morrison See more

This past week, I had the honour of being on a (virtual) panel with Dr. Michael C. Klein. He had been off my radar for the most part until then, but his words had such resonance that now I can't stop delving into his amazing life. I'm kinda happy I didn't know just how rad he was - I may have been more nervous to speak, or had gotten 'star-struck'. But I digress. Here's a tremendous, eye-opening interview for pregnant people and care providers, alike!
