Did you guys know my first portrait commissions were digital pet illustrations? It’s true - long before I started working with watercolour, (back in the part of the 2000s that hadn’t reached the teen numbers yet!) I did vector portraits in Adobe Illustrator. They weren’t cartoony, like @thebombshells.ca, and they *did* have faces/features, so they’re pretty different from my more recent work... but when I got a message from Candice at Home Depot’s corporate office asking ...if I could do a custom Christmas order for her coworkers that was somewhere between my minimalist watercolours and the digital Bombshells, I knew just where to start. Today I did a really cool thing, and I painted this entire family portrait of @thefreckledfox and kids... live, right here on Instagram! It’s the first time I have ever done it and at first it was totally uncomfortable and I had no idea what I should do. Do I talk? Do I play music? Does anyone even want to see this? But by the end of it, I was definitely feeling much less awkward and I think it’s something I’ll do again for sure. Thank you to everyone who popped in to watch..., even just for a second.
