'Our freedom was severely restricted by a series of anti-Jewish decrees: Jews were required to wear a yellow star; Jews were required to turn in their bicycles;... Jews were forbidden to use streetcars; Jews were forbidden to ride in cars, even their own; ...' wrote Anne Frank on 20 June 1942 in her diary. The Holocaust didn’t start with ghettos and concentration camps. #ItStartedWithWords Holocaust survivors from around the world share their testimonies of how hate speech led to the unimaginable violence of the Holocaust. How do you manage being a woman in agriculture? I hate the question SO MUCH. I hate that it has to be asked. I hate that I don’t have an eloquent answer. ... I hate that it’s 2021 and women still question going into agriculture. I hate that women feel like they have to choose between a career or family. I hate that I’ve experienced their fears and know that it’s real. My friend and fellow veterinarian @tr_barnhardt brought up something that stuck with me. Why address the glass ceiling? Why not ignore it? Don’t let it hold us back or create a perceived barrier. This stuck with me. We should walk onto every farm, into every meeting, every situation with the mindset that we belong there. We might have something to prove, but it’s not that we’re man enough. We shouldn’t sit meekly in the back waiting for permission to be equal or accepted - we should assume that we are! Someday my hope is that the worst part of being a woman in agriculture is that we get chaff in our bras. That’s it! Nothing more.
