RADITHON 2020 CAPPED OFF WITH DONATION FROM ESPANOLA LEGION: Saturday, December 12's Meat Roll-off at the Espanola Royal Canadian Legion Branch #39 was a special one with the presentation of a cheque for $18,253.60 to the Espanola Regional Hospital Foundation. Taking part in the presentation is (L-r): Mike Dunn, the Chair of the foundation, Branch #39 President Gary MacPherson and Poppy Chair, Dan Kryzanowski. The funding is earmarked for the new x-ray suite in the Espanola h...ospital. The Legion raises its funds through the sale of tickets, fundraising dinners, hosting events (with COVID-19 protocols in place), through the sale of poppies and meat roll-offs. Saturday's roll-offs were well attended with everyone following protocols with some lucky winners bringing home some delicious cuts of meat and the community benefitting overall from the funds raised, which are in turn, used to support various community initiatives. With the presentation of the cheque, this year's radiothon raised $74, 277.00. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTED TO THE X-RAY SUITE. YOUR GENEROSITY IS MUCH APPECIATED. See more

THANK YOU FROM FAMILY AND OPP... on behalf of the Manitoulin OPP and police services throughout Ontario, they extend a heartfelt thank you for all the support shown by the people of the province in bringing Marc home. Members of the family were part of the cavalcade and they also extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone for the respect shown to their loved one: the late Manitoulin OPP Constable Marc Hovingh. From the Birch Island Tower lit up in blue to the little ones carrying hearts in memory of Marc, the salutes and respect of Legion veterans, fellow OPP and RCMP, the family is so thankful for the respect shown to their loved one. Thank you!@ Photos by Rosalind Russell, Terri Noble, Karin Bates and Cara McGregor

IMMEDIATE NOTICE: BOIL WATER ADVISORY FOR TOWNSHIP OF NAIRN AND HYMAN As a result of an adverse water sample reported today, Public Health Sudbury & Districts has issued a boil water advisory effective immediately for all residents of the Township of Nairn and Hyman. A boil water advisory means that people who take their water from the municipal system should NOT use it for drinking; making juice, infant formula, or ice; cooking; washing uncooked fruit and vegetables; or brus...hing teeth unless water is brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute prior to use. For these purposes, water from an alternate source, such as bottled water, should be used. The water can be used for laundry and bathing (excluding small children who could swallow the water). This boil water advisory is being issued as a precautionary measure, and it is not believed that anyone who has consumed this water will experience any ill health effects, said Cynthia Peacock-Rocca, a manager in Public Health’s Health Protection Division. Operators with the township have already commenced water sampling. Until bacteriological testing of the drinking water indicates a safe supply, the boil water advisory will remain in effect as a precaution. Public Health staff will continue to monitor the situation. Public Health Sudbury & Districts will notify the municipality when the boil water advisory is lifted and residents will be advised. For more information, please call Public Health Sudbury & Districts at 705.522.9200, toll-free 1.866.522.9200 or visit www.phsd.ca. Photo by unsplash.com See more
